Calhoun Community College

Now is the perfect time to consider truck driving as a career!

If you have always wanted to be a truck driver, or you are looking to transition to a new career after being in the workforce for a period of time, Calhoun Community College can provide the training and testing you need. The CDL Training class provides driver license testing information and training for drivers who wish to have a commercial driver’s license (CDL – Class A or B) and endorsements. This course will also provide information on federal requirements for the state’s standards for the licensing of commercial drivers. Calhoun also offers Freight Broker/Agent training.

Admission and Tuition

Funding is available through the Alabama Career Center and Sallie Mae based on eligibility, and the cost of training is $2950.00 for 160 course hours. The school offers classes every day of the week and is taught by an experienced instructor with 14+ years as a CDL Examiner. Training is hands-on in a team environment, and recruiters are available to discuss job opportunities. Skills testing and a certificate of completion and verification are included.

Students entering the CDL Truck Driving Program must:

  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age for a class A CDL
  • Successfully pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a chain of custody drug screen
  • Present a current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) obtained from the Department of Public Safety in Huntsville or Sheffield.

Documentation of these requirements must be submitted at least one week prior to the start of class to the Calhoun CDL Office via mail, email, or fax. Detailed information to help navigate you through the process of obtaining and submitting documentation is listed on the website under “Requirements and Registration Steps," and the cost of each item is listed under "Price and Information."

Visit the website to find contact information for each local Alabama Career Center regarding eligibility and application for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding for tuition assistance.
