Alaska's Center for Employment Education is a vocational school that offers PTDI-certified CDL training programs. The school strives to be recognized as offering the most comprehensive training and safety oriented programs available. It is indeed a comprenshive program compared to other CDL schools - upon graduation from the basic course, students will have earned not only their CDL, but also endorsements for double/triples, tanks and hazardous materials. Different courses begin each week.
Programs Offered at Center for Employment Education
- 6-Week Basic Driver Training - CDL A
Anchorage Only
- Guides students through vehicle systems, safety, and hands-on tractor-trailer driver training. Safe operating practices address procedures, extreme driving conditions and emergency maneuvers, trip planning, and log books
- Students take the road skills test in the same equipment used throughout the course
- Also included in this course is training in: First Aid/CPR/AED, DOT Regulations, Forklift, Entry Level Driver (Certificate is received for each)
- Each successful student receives a CDL A with double/triple trailer, tank vehicle, and hazardous material endorsements (with exception for individuals under age 21 years), along with Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) certificate of attainment
- Prerequisites: Age 19 (intrastate license only), Age 21 (interstate license) *(See 11/26/15 notice above), social security card, DOT physical - Medical Examiners Certificate, DOT drug test, drivers license for a minimum 1 year, and clean driving record
- 3-Week Fast Track - CDL A
- This is a 3-week, accelerated tractor-trailer driving course with 4 days of classroom training and 11 days behind-the-wheel/vehicle training
- Safe driving practices, speed and space management, night operation, entry level driver (49 CFR 380.503), and log books are addressed
- Students take the road skills test in the same equipment used throughout the course
- Upon successful completion, students earn a CDL A
- Prerequisites: Age 19 (intrastate license only), Age 21 (interstate license), social security card, DOT physical - Medical Examiners Certificate, DOT drug test, drivers license for a minimum 1 year, and clean driving record
- Long Commercial Vehicle
- Graduate training for the professional driver. This 40-hour course (5 days) provides an experienced CDL A driver the opportunity to obtain additional skills necessary to pull more than one trailer
- Prerequisites: 6 months immediately preceding application: Valid Class A CDL A with Doubles/Triples endorsement, driving experience in a Group A vehicle, and current DOT physical - Medical Examiners Certificate. A check-ride is required of all applicants
Tuition and Financing
The school does not provide any financial assistance, but does partner with other agencies that may help students with tuition costs. Workforce Development grants, Military VA grants and Alaska Native Scholarships are all accepted.
- 6-week Basic Driver Trainng - Tuition: $8,200 includes road test, Books & Lab Fees: $160.00, DMV Fees: $115.00 (includes IA permit $15 & license fee $100.) If you are upgrading from a CDL C or B to a CDL A, the License Fee is only $15
- 3-week Fast Track Course - Tuition: $6,500 includes road test, DMV Fees: $115.00 (includes IA permit $15 and license fee $100). If you are upgrading from a CDL C or B, license fee is only $15
- Long Commercial Vehicle Course - Tuition: $2,800.00
