Introduction to Central Community College

Central Community College uses U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines for training and licensing truck drivers. Program graduates will receive 12 college credits, awarded a professional truck driver training certificate, and complete all tests for to obtain a CDL.

It includes 240 hours of combined instruction and driving time with a minimum of 50 of these hours being hands-on driving time on the school range, city streets, highways and interstate.

What Courses Does CCC Offer?

  • Basic Operations Class A - Basic operations are designed to introduce students to the working components of tractor-trailer and basic maneuvers. Students will learn to control the motion of the vehicle and ensure that it is in proper operating condition and correctly coupled to trailers. (6 credits)
  • Non-Vehicle Activities-Class A - Responsibilities of a tractor/trailer driver: cargo handling and documentation, hours of service, accident procedures, health and safety, trip planning, and public and employer relations. (3 credits)
  • Basic Operations-Class B CDL - Basic operations for a Class B CDL are designed to introduce students to the basic maneuvers of heavy, single vehicles in excess of 26,000 pounds (gross vehicle weight rating). Students will learn to drive a class B vehicle, control the motion of the vehicle, and ensure that it is in proper operating condition. (2 credits)
  • Advanced Operating Practices - Advanced operations are designed to enable students to increase proficiency in the basic highway traffic maneuvers of lane changing, passing, merging, turning, and parking. (2 credits)
  • Defensive Driving - Combine principles of defensive driving with the technical skills of the professional truck driver to enable truckers to meet the difficult task of safely operating vehicle. (.5 credit)
  • NE Department of Motor Vehicles Third Party Examination - Third Party Examination of student’s performance driving a pre-determined and CMV-approved route. Behind the wheel performance. (.5 credit)

Admission Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination and drug screen.
  • Be able to obtain a CDL learner’s permit.
  • Have a current driver’s license with no more than three moving violations in the past three years.
  • Have no DUI charges in the past five years and no more than one ever.
  • Have no more than one chargeable accident in the past year.
