Continental Truck Driver Training & Education

Continental truck driving school has been training students since 2000 and offers extensive coursework and tuition payment options. The school also places high emphasis on job placement. The program is 200 hours over four weeks for day classes or six weeks for evening classes, Monday through Friday. At the end of the program, each student will receive a certificate of completion and transcript of grades and accomplishments.

What Continental coursework will cover

  • Driving on the open road in highway, city, and heavy traffic conditions
  • Safe and efficient operation of various types of tractors and trailers
  • Defensive driving techniques, backing softy, and emergency procedures
  • In-depth study of DOT safety rules and regulations
  • Evaluations and critiques from our team of professional instructors
  • Graduates receive a certificate and a Class A CDL
  • Continental provides job placement assistance

Tuition

The cost of tuition varies. Loan programs offered by the school require a minimum down payment of $265 followed by $265 per month with a credit check, or a $1,000 down payment with no credit check required. Some carriers will reimburse tuition $75-200 a month. Length of loan payment programs will vary depending on the tuition. Contact the school for more tuition information.

Types of tuition assistance available at Continental:

  • Cash Special payment option via payment with cash, check, or credit card
  • Offer of housing at cost for out of state applicants
  • The school is certified as an eligible training provided under (WIOA) (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). This agency funds eligible students to attend Class A CDL training at Continental.
  • DARS funding: Many students receive funding through either State or private vocational rehabilitation programs such as DARS (Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. If you are an injured worker or are currently in a rehabilitation program, you may be eligible for this type of funding.
  • Individuals who have lost their job due to foreign competition or trade may qualify for Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) Funding.
  • Many Native American students receive funding through their tribal council or the Bureau of Indian Affairs. If you are a Native American, you may be eligible for this type of funding.
  • Assistance is available for refugees and asylums
  • Programs to assist veterans include:

    Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill

    Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill

    Chapter 35 - Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program (DEA)

    Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation

Job placement

Continental states that many of their students receive multiple truck driver job offers prior to graduation, and that trucking companies send their recruiters to the school. They also state that students receive assistance on the proper methods of completing employment applications and on interviewing techniques by Job Placement personnel.

Eligibility

In order to apply to Continental, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Meet the Texas DPS Residency Requirements
  • Complete the Department of Transportation physical examination (Long Form required)
  • Pass a Department of Transportation drug screen
  • Hold a valid Texas driver’s license prior to enrollment, free of any outstanding tickets or warrants
  • Provide a copy of your social security card or proof of your ability to work legally in the United States
  • Provide a copy of your high school diploma, G.E.D., or successfully pass the written Learner’s Permit section of the CDL exam
  • Complete your Admissions Application
  • Be able to read and speak the English language and do simple arithmetic
  • No loss of a foot, a leg, a hand, or an arm; or has been granted a skill performance evaluation certificate
  • No diabetes requiring insulin for control
  • No heart problems
  • No respiratory dysfunction
  • No high blood pressure
  • No rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular problems that would affect vehicle control
  • No epilepsy or other condition likely to cause loss of consciousness
  • No mental, nervous, organic, or functional disease or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with vehicle control
  • Vision 20/40 or better in each eye, not color blind
  • Have good hearing
  • No addiction to drugs
  • No addiction to alcohol
  • No felony convictions involving illegal drugs in a commercial vehicle
  • No DWI violations within the last 5 years ​
