Truck Driver Training Program

FVCC’s Commercial Drivers License program prepares students to take the driving exams for the Montana Class “A” CDL license and the Montana Class “B” CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.

FVCC offers five courses in commercial driver’s license training. Courses involve electronic simulator and real behind-the-wheel driving experience, as well as classroom lecture. Students gain knowledge about federal and state regulations, safety procedures, hazardous materials, bill of lading, trip report procedures, loading and securing, and air brake systems.

What is the FVCC CDL Program?

FVCC offers two routes to earning a CDL to drive a truck: CommericialTruck Driver - A 4-week basic CDL course; and Professional Truck Driver - an 8-week CDL course including all of the endorsements. In addition, there is a Commercial Bus Driver Class B CDL course offered.

Steps to Obtain a CDL Through FVCC

Prerequisites to apply:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Current Montana driver’s license
  • Birth certificate or Passport
  • Proof of state residence
  • No DUIs in the past five years

At least two weeks before the class:

  • Pick up a CDL packet from FVCC, Occupational Trades Building, Room 110
  • Apply to FVCC. (It’s free and does not obligate you to attend.)

What are the Fees?

  • Commercial Truck Driver (Basic CDL) 4 weeks, Tuition-$649.60, Equipment-$1,800, Total-$2,449.60
  • Professional Truck Driver (Plus CDL) 8 weeks, Tuition-$1,344.20, Equipment-$2,000, Total-$3,344.20
  • Commercial Driver’s License-Bus (Class B CDL) 2 weeks, Tuition- $487.20, Equipment-$960.00, Total-$1,447.20
