Riverland Community College’s 16-week truck driving program provides training for every type of CDL-required vehicle, including double trailer, tanker, hazmat, commercial passenger bus and snow plow. The school maintains partnerships with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Rochester City Lines, XPO Logistics, and Norseman Trucking, who hire graduates. Riverland also offers the opportunity for a paid internship of $240 hours.

Students are readied for a career in transportation by covering:

  • Rules and regulations within the industry
  • Safe operations of CDL required vehicles
  • Performing a minimum of 44 hours behind the wheel to include 12 hours on the range, 12 hours on the highway, 1 hour of night driving, and 6 hours of a loaded trailer with the remainder in any combination
  • Comprehensive understanding of a truck driver’s lifestyle
  • Appreciation and understanding for safety and compliance in the transportation industry
  • Improving highway safety by demonstrating courteous and professional driving skills

Admission and funding assistance

Students must pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screening, obtain a CDL permit, and must consult with the advisor prior to program admission. Tuition is approximately $6,216.54, and an additional estimate of $200 for books. Student loan aid is available via FAFSA. The school offers payment plans as well as many scholarships, including several special trucking scholarships:

  • Big Iron Classic Truck Driving Scholarship
  • Minnesota Trucking Association Scholarship
  • Moving on Memorial Scholarship
  • Davian Daubenberger Memorial Trucking Scholarship
