Salt Lake City Community College offers an intensive program designed to prepare students for an entry-level truck driving position as a Class A CDL driver. The program has two courses with units of study that cover basic and advanced operating practices, defensive driving, inspections, life skills and essential activities such as trip planning, map reading, hours of service, cargo handling and an employment workshop.
In SLCC's Class A CDL program students will log in 270 hours, and these hours are broken into three sections. Students will spend 30 hours in a computer concepts course, 160 hours in a Truck Driving/Class A CDL course, and 80 hours in an extended driving course. Upon completion students will have the confidence and skills needed to start a new career in truck driving.
SLCC also offers a stand alone course to prepare students to take a CDL Learners Permit, which is required to complete the course to obtain a Class A CDL.
