Scott Community College offers a ten-week Truck Driving program to obtain a Class A CDL. The program devotes three weeks to classroom instruction. Students are familiarized with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, vehicle equipment and operations, logging, trip planning, mapping, and other requirements and expectations of commercial drivers. Students are prepared to take the state written tests to obtain a Class A CDL permit during this time.
After obtaining a Class A CDL permit, SCC continues the course with providing seven weeks of behind the wheel training involving rural, urban, highway and interstate driving. Defensive driving techniques and safe operations of the vehicle are thoroughly covered and students are prepared to take the state performance exams for a CDL A license and begin their careers as professional truck drivers.
