United Truck Driving School

The United Truck Driving School's mission is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills he or she needs to qualify for entry level jobs in the trucking industry. UTDS places an emphasis on safety, understanding Federal Motor Carrier Safety Rules and Regulations, and defensive driving techniques. UTDS is designed to train, educate, and assist in the placement process in the truck industry.

What Does The United Truck Driving School Class A CDL Cover?

Students enrolled in UTDS will complete 160 hours of training; this includes 40 hours in the classroom and 120 hours behind the wheel field training. Students can expect to learn:

  • Safety Awareness
  • Vehicle Inspection, pre and post trip
  • Brake System
  • Map Reading and Log Books
  • CDL Preparation
  • Adverse Weather Conditions
  • Job search skills and preparation
  • Coupling and Uncoupling
  • Backing and Parking including straight line backing, alley docking, parallel parking, and offset
  • Up Shift and down shift by Speed and RPM
  • Transmission shifting
  • Driving Controls
  • Lane change positions and turning movements
  • Tire and wheel safety maintenance
  • Tractor and Trailer Maintenance
  • Fifth Wheel and Sliding Area

Tuition And Financing

Break down of Tuition costs:

  • Registration Fee - $100
  • Drug Screen - $50.00
  • DOT Physical - $70.00
  • DMV Permit - $75.00
  • DMV Printout - $5.00
  • CDL Course Fee - $2,900

In an effort to provide their students UTDS has established contracts with a variety of sources for student tuition assistance. The following is a list of agencies that we work with:

  • Department of Rehabilitation
  • Workforce Investment Act (WIA) approved for the ETPL

Admission Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older (intrastate driving apply if under 18)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Read, write and comprehend English. All classes are taught in English.
  • If an applicant has more than two moving violations and/or DUI’s, the Admissions Representative will inform the applicant that job placement may be limited and with some companies, not available.
  • If an applicant has any felony convictions or any medical disabilities they must be disclosed to the Admission Representative in order for the applicant to be made aware of any employment or federal restrictions that may apply to hiring criteria, (job placement).
  • Obtain a 10 year Department of Motor Vehicle, (DMV) print out. (Print out must be within the last thirty days).
  • Pass a Department of Transportation, (DOT), physical, and Drug Screening.
  • United Truck Driving School does not admit students from other countries and does not provide Visa services nor does it vouch for student status.
