US Truck Driver Training School, Inc.

U.S. Truck Driver Training School was established in 1994 and has provided Class A and B CDL training for over 15,000 men and women. With experienced, well-trained, licensed instructors USTDTS ensures that each student is equipped with the knowledge and the professional skills to start a new career in the transportation industry.

What Programs Does USTDTS Offer?

  • Professional Tractor Trailer Training Program 602 - An 18 week program (602 hours) that is designed for those who have little to no experience with truck driving or CDL training. Students will learn extensive knowledge about the transportation industry and gain the necessary skills to manage the business aspect of the transportation industry.
  • Entry Level Tractor Trailer Training Program 160 - A 4 week program (160 hours) that is designed to prepare students for the minimum entry level requirements for obtaining their Class A CDL certificates. Students will receive classroom, lab, range, and road instruction throughout the duration of the course. Graduates have the opportunity to be placed with a preferred major national trucking company and will enter into on the job training (OJT).
  • General CDL Tractor Trailer Training Program Certification - Individuals that already hold a CDL Class A or B license and have not driven for a period of time can enroll into a customized refresher program to get them ready to go back on the open road. The refresher programs can be custom tailored to each individual's needs.
  • 40 Hour Class B/P Certification - This course has been designed for individuals looking to obtain their Class B CDL. Graduates of this program will be able to operate a variety of straight trucks and buses. A requirement of this program is obtaining your passenger endorsement.

Costs of the 602 Program include:

  • Tuition - $8995.00
  • Registration - $25.00
  • Road Test Fee - $100
  • Drug Test - $40.00 *paid to USTDTS
  • D.O.T Physical - $80 *paid to USTDTS (Third Party D.O.T. acceptable)
  • Temporary Instruction Permit - $60.00 (operator’s license) $25.00 (chauffeurs license) *paid to the Secretary of State.
  • License Conversion Fee - $18.00 *paid to the Secretary of State
  • Gloves - $13.00
  • Air Gauge - $8.00
  • Flashlight - $3.00
  • PT Inspection Tool - $12.00
  • Laminated Map - $16.88
  • FMCSR Manual - $8.95
  • JJ Keller Manual - $49.00

Costs if the 160 Program include:

  • Tuition - $5995.00
  • Registration - $25.00
  • Road Test - $100.00
  • Drug Test - $40.00 *paid to USTDTS
  • D.O.T Physical - $70.50 *paid to Concentra Medical
  • Temporary Instruction Permit - $60.00 (operator’s license) $25.00 (chauffeurs license) *paid to the Secretary of State
  • License Conversion Fee - $18.00 *paid to the Secretary of State

Financing is available to those who qualify, as well as grants and state funded tuition assistance through Michigan Works, WIA, TAA, TARFF, and more.

Program For Military Veterans

USTDTS is also approved by the Michigan State Approving Agency for the training of VA students and other eligible beneficiaries. These benefits include Chapters 31, 1606, 1607, 30, 35 and 33.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, be eligible for a Class A CDL upgrade through the state of Michigan, and be at least 18 years of age.

Students are advised that if he or she has any of the following on their driving record, employment may be more difficult to find. Obtaining a letter of pre-employment prior to enrollment is highly recommended before entry. Applicants with any of the incidents listed who do not obtain a letter of pre-employment prior to enrollment must meet with the school’s Director of Admissions and sign an employment advisement letter.

  • DWI or DUI within the past 5 years
  • Felony within the past 7 years
  • Careless or wreck less driving within the past 3 years
  • At fault accident in the past 1 year

Students admitted into the program must also be able to pass a Department of Transportation Physical and take a drug screen. Students must also be able to pass the Secretary of State Temporary Instruction Permit written test, which requires basic reading and writing of the English language. Students with a high school diploma or equivalent GED should not have difficulty passing this written exam.
