Update- week 2 we spent practicing our skills including controlled stop, straight backing, alley dock (45 º angle), and right hand turn which we will be tested on when we go for our license here in illinois. By end of week we went out on interstate 57 to practice on and off ramps and shifting. This week we are gonna spend driving all over southern Illinois with our instructor. It has been a blast so far. I'm sure there will be many challenges to come. Loving it. Cant wait to get out on road and make some money. Love the site. All these wonderful people and the great advice and support is priceless. We go tomorrow for our cdl permit and dot physical. I can't wait to get in the truck and on the road. Not sure what to expect but instructor says some recruiters are coming in next week. Any advice regarding them or specific things to ask or stay away from? Ptl and schneider are 2 I know for sure coming. Thanks for anything you guys have offer about those 2 companies.

As our instructor warned and many others have mentioned. This first week is painfully boring. Especially when we will do nothing but practice tests rest of week on computer when you continually score well above passing. But hey....it could be worse. Gotta hang in there until get in truck next week. There are only 4 ppl in my 6 week class so should equate to plenty of driving time since there are 2 instructors. I wanted to add I got my class funded through local WIA OFFICE dislocated worker program. They still have funding and classes every 6 weeks here in southern illinois. Our instructors say recruiters are already beating down his door to hire us. More to come soon!

Hello and a big thanks to everyone here for the wonderful website. I just started a 6 week cdl school at Shawnee community college in southern Illinois. Like most others we are spending week one studying for our cdl permit test coming on Friday same day we willl do our dot physical and be ready to jump in truck next week. I feel blessed to have such a nice preparation tool as the high road program. I have scored well 95% range on all 3 practice tests thanks to my having completed the online program here beforehand. Cant wait to get out on road. Hope to see you all soon. I will try to update as I go along.
