Got to a customer site that had one door. Some driver dropped his trailer and told them he had to go get fuel.
I was the 3d driver backed up waiting for him to return and he had the brass ones to honk AT ME for blocking the driveway so he couldn't get by to hook up and pull his now empty trailer from the ONE DOOR.
Don't be that guy!
I definitely will not be that guy. Like I said I've driven before, have a bit over a quarter million miles using a Jeep Liberty for Courier work (which is a lot) and another 100 thousand driving a straight truck. I wouldn't leave in dock if there was only one to be sure.
I just really want to know if I am waiting a few hours for a load if I can disappear for a couple of those hours since I won't be doing anything but watching netflix or reading anyway.

First, you will need an address for your liscence. It could be a friend or relative. Most likely you will not be able to go to far from your truck at most shippers/recievers. If you drive dry van, you'll have more drop and hooks and quicker live load/unloads. You could get plenty of walking around most truck stops. Worse comes to worse, you could walk laps around your truck. You can walk on your 30 minute break as well. There are ample opportunities to walk. Some terminals and truck stops have workout rooms as well. It will be up to you to eat right and exercise. There is ample and easily accessed junk food on the road. Many people get bikes to take on the road. You may want to wait on that. I hope that helps. Good luck.
Thanks for the help Scott. I already have a Po Box on my license so I should be good there. I want to go flat bed but I'd be okay with anything. Dry van sounds great but I know its hard to get in the beginning or so I've heard. I've applied to three companies, do you think that is enough? I researched pretty heavily and these 3 seem to be the best fit for me. I'll definitely be walking every chance I can get.
I am going to try to stop in cities/towns and load up on healthy foods as much as possible and cook/prepare as much food as I can by myself. I am going to get this app right now, I think it is called lose, an article I was reading about a trucker in particular tells how he was able to lose a bunch of weight using it. Being out of shape sucks, been going on for way too long. I got way too comfortable with a woman and it just didn't matter. I'll definitely be bringing my bike. Storage wise where can I put that if I don't get flat bed?
Thanks again.

Hi Everyone,
While I am brand new to driving a big rig (going to school in a couple weeks) I am not brand new to driving professionally. The biggest concern I have had about my life over the past few years has been getting in shape. I know fully and without a doubt that trucking is not the industry to get into if one is trying to get into shape but circumstances, life and my financial goals dictate that this may be the best thing I can do for myself. On to my question: Can I leave my truck while waiting at a client/yard to be loaded. I have read and have come to understand that one can spend hours upon hours waiting to be loaded sometimes (no qualms with this). I want to know can I leave my truck and the client's yard and go for a long walk - an hour or two. Note: I would only leave for such an extended period if the client told me it would be at least 3-4 hours or longer until the truck will be loaded.
Along with the above question can I leave it at a truck stop and go on a long walk or bike ride for a few hours?
Walking and riding is how I plan on getting in shape. On another note I will not have a home while I am a trucker as I plan on saving as much as possible. I plan on getting a cheap airbnb/motel or staying with friends for 'home time.'
Thank you in advance for all the help. I really plan on walking and riding every single time I can during any down times. Please let me know how possible this will be.

Can I leave my truck while waiting to be loaded? Can I leave it in a safe spot at a truck stop or other 'safe place'?
