Truck Driver Medications

David, Welcome to the forum!

Here's how it all works as far as your medications go. You will be required to provide a list of medications you are taking on a standard form that they will give you before they do the drug testing. Don't dare try to avoid putting one down on the list and just hoping that somehow it won't show up on the drug test. That is why the knuckleheads get sent home so much of the time. We want you to be well informed and proactive in this process. Honesty counts in this whole process, and if you are taking medications you need to let them know what it is and why you're taking it before they have to draw their own conclusions from the drug test. It's way too late for you to try and explain it after the test, and you don't want to be a knucklehead do you? You should also have with you the doctor's name and phone number for any prescription medications that you are taking just in case the attending physician wants to ask some questions. I also recommend that you go ahead and contact a local physician that does D.O.T. physicals and ask them if Tramadol is an acceptable medication for commercial drivers to be taking - there are some medications that are not acceptable, and if that is the case maybe your physician could help you get on something similar that would come under the D.O.T.'s radar.

I'm also concerned because you mentioned Diabetes. If you are an insulin dependent diabetic it is next to impossible to get a commercial drivers job. Some folks can control this with oral medications and that seems to be the acceptable forms of diabetes for the D.O.T.

Don't worry about stating the medications you use being a deterrent to your employment - this is standard procedure which is required by federal law. It will not hurt your chances of getting the job.

Good luck David, I wish you the best! If you have some more questions jump in here and ask, or if you need more clarification on what I've said let us know and someone will be able to respond to it I'm sure.

Thanks Moderator,And as far as insulin,i am not on that but I am on advandment oral and is is one pill a day.
