How is the trucking industry now?

It's still chugging along. You saw a stint where everyone and their brother bought a truck and started competing during the whole covid mess. For many companies that you've seen go under, it was bad business decisions that wound up biting them in the long run.

Profits have gone up in the industry but the profit margins are still very low compared to other industries so it will always be high risk in that regard but as a driver, there's still money to be made because products have to be moved.

Information flies in your face so fast that if you dwell on it all the time, everything is bad, the world is ending and the doom factor is off the charts. Take a breath, relax and realize that with every post made, there's a reason behind it. Much of that is fear driven, to get you to believe that big gubbament has all the solutions and a small study of history proves that just isn't the case.

Thank you for your insights. Company driver is what I'm looking for.

How is the trucking industry now?

I've been away from trucking for quite some time and now am considering coming back, but all the news I saw says truck drivers are losing jobs due to the economy. For those of you who are still on the road, what do you feel? Do you have enough loads to haul? Will this industry keep goind downhill?

Thank you in advance for your insights.

Team Driving Newbies Seeking Advice: Which Mega Carrier Offers the Best Start?

We started with Schneider. They have a lot of operation centers (aka. terminals) all over the country. Usually there are company cars there available for drivers to check out for free so that they can get some groceries in the nearby stores. There are also showers and internet too. Some places may even have a fitness room or a cafeteria.

Physical requirements for tanker

Hi everyone,

Do you know what are the physical requirements for tankers? I mean how many pounds do you need to be able to lift and move in order to perform the job like delivering fuel and gasoline?

Thanks.

Where do you position the tractor 5th wheel when pulling doubles?

Thank you for all your replies, guys. Now I think I know why my company puts removable mud flaps on the tractor.

Where do you position the tractor 5th wheel when pulling doubles?

I'm going to start this new job pulling doubles. I understand that the tractor's 5th wheel needs to be moved back, but no one has specified how far back it should be. If you have pulled doubles, where do you position your tractor 5th wheel? Do you slide it all the way back to the last pin?

Thank you in advance.

New here (trying to decide if a career to trucker is for me)

I'm 41 and just opened my CDL manual yesterday. I'm concerned about driving something that big too.

It didn't take me too long to decide to switch my career. Yes, the higher salary being a trucker is in my consideration. However, what helps me choose this path is a TED lecture where a lady talks about her career change at the age of 40. She switched from a government employee to a cab driver. The lecture is in Chinese and I can't find an English translation. However, the speaker made the decision by asking herself three questions:

1. Who am I?

2. If I were the only person living on the earth (i.e., I did't need to please any one), how would I want to live my life?

3. If I had nothing, what would I want?

It seems that you have contemplated for about a year. I assume you have explored the pros and cons about this profession. It's probably time to dig deeper in your heart to see what you really want. Good luck!
