Been mostly lurking here for the last six months once me and the wife started discussing this so I got to soak up lots of stories from you all..lol

Congratulations! I passed my Texas Learner Permit Test today as well.

What tests do you need to pass in order to get your CDL A permit in Ohio?

In Texas, I needed to pass only the Combination Vehicle Test and the Texas Special Requirement Test (Manual Section 14) to get the Permit.

The General Knowledge Test, the Pre-Trip Test, and the Air Brake Test are part of the actual CDL License Test. I got 95% on the Combination Vehicle Test and 85% on the Special Requirements Test.

Surprisingly OH its much more simple it seems in this regard at least. Only had to take General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combo Vehicle as well as HazMat so I could get the background checks and whatnot going for that. No other special requirements at this time thankfully. I think I was in and out the door within about 1/2 hour tops really.

Just wanted to say thanks to Brett, Daniel, Old School, Guy, and all the other moderators for having such positive and informative site.

Thanks to using the High Road Training Program as a supplement to the Ohio CDL book I passed my permit test at 98% today.

Going to keep reading and applying the knowledge given so freely to school which starts on the 25th with Prime. Hopefully I will find the time to be able share some of my own experiences. thank-you.gif

Yeah... I wouldn't recommend WoW on the road. You'll never be a productive driver with that drug in your system.

COD and any other game like it bored me. Played WoW for 8 years and finally became bored with it. Also spent 2 years on War Hammer and 9 years with Ultima Online (which most of you have not heard of. Wow took its place in the mmorpg market. Many years on Second Life on RP servers and before all that in the beginning of AOL texted based RP in chat rooms and in IRC chatrooms.

So I do know about gaming and high end computers just a little. All my computers have been built with very narrow specs in mind designed for one type of game in mind(whatever flavor of gaming I was doing at the time). Let computer games fall away into the back ground and become only a part time hobby. You can not mix hard core gaming and trucking. They are like oil and water. They don't mix at all.

Ultima Online....that brings back a few memories.

Was also into Shadowbane (emulators for this game are in beta testing), Darkfall, and occasionally League of Legends or World of Tanks if I want quicker games.

Told to drive when it's obvious you're too tired.

I haven't posted on here in months, but I read quite a bit. If there's one cardinal rule I've learned about trucking it's that you don't drive when you're too tired to do so. Good rule. I ran across a YouTube video tonight (many of you may have seen it already) where a driver was too tired to drive. He recorded the phone conversation he had with his company and I was shocked at what I heard. Is the treatment this driver received typical? What's your experience with this? Link to YouTube Video

Does it necessary have to be drivers that answer the ?'s.

Could just be some volunteers that will go out and volunteer to help people get the answers. People like the wives of the drivers or retired drivers who may know the answers to the question or with just a little research can get the answer. Might even be those office support people that are on break or off for the day and being bored as long as they had some connection to the industry.

Setup it up in like a tiered response. Volunteers get the questions and evaluate whether they can answer or not and then escalate it up the "experience chain" until they get an answer. If they are like me they might have the question they had already answered on the site but have not found it or lack the computer experience to find it and a volunteer could get it for them.

Reasoning behind my thought is that the numbers previously posted for unique visitors to the site you could get a dozen or so "Mentors" completely bombarded with email and/or phone calls otherwise and getting them at all sidetracked from making their money, etc. is something I think all would like to avoid. While the driver will always likely have the best answers it is likely not needed to hit them over and over again with the same questions.

Just a thought to throw in the mix there.

Having a mentor program sounds just awesome.

Just having a reliable and experienced person to chat with while having all this information slammed into your head and the stresses involved in applying that information to real life situation afterwards might save a ton of new drivers that were just getting overwhelmed b/c maybe they did not have the support system behind them that others might have just starting out.
