I Thought The Industry Needed Drivers?

Apology accepted and appreciated and agree was just a “bad choice of words”.

I Thought The Industry Needed Drivers?

Mr. Wild Bill - Respectfully, I try not to judge others as I have no idea what they are going through in their day to day life / you have NO IDEA what losses and life I’ve been through the past 2 years that have had me filing tax extensions. To question my morals and ethics should be below you having never met me. And, if you thoroughly read my responses you would see I’m blaming nobody and own my actions, ALWAYS. I’ve not built a million dollar company that I’m handing to my kids by blaming outside influences for internal action. I have the first 27 years lined up but they didn’t want those.

I’ve got a driving job lined up for after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Appreciate the feedback I’ve been getting. Even the feedback I disagree with.

Turtle - As a contractor the company absolutely receives 1099’s. However, the 2 companies I previously mentioned were seeking proof of income for me personally, not for my company. As a single member LLC all profits pass through company to me and is done so via a Schedule C form. For a single member LLC to issue 1099 or W-2 to its member is illegal. Certainly employees for the company get W-2. Both recruiters at Stevens and Prime whom were reading a script off a screen we’re both adamant. As previously stated I sent Stevens documentation from QuichBooks for Annual sales as well as corporate structure documentation but that was not acceptable. I DID inquire if there was anything else I could share besides taxes and was advised no. Recruiter from Prime said if I provided 6 months employment from a company I could re-apply.

Sorry that I’m not a forum officienado yet and unable to “QUOTE” and reply. But I will get there.

Brett - I agree with your post whole heartedly “mistakes and experience”. So correct.

Make it a great day. (It is a choice)

I am indeed behind on filing taxes. I can provide the first 27 years but not the last 2. These darn recruiters kept requesting I “just send 1099 or W-2” both of which are illegal for a single member LLC to utilize. It’s 2022, I could have certainly gone on line to pdffiller.com and attained Scgedule C form and sent them something.I just won’t do it for my liability or theirs. I’ve sent them the annual sales of company as well as documentation showing ownership, but that wasn’t sufficient. My fault, I’ll deal with the repercussion and will land exactly where I’m supposed to. I am a pilot friend of the owner of Tn Truck Driving School where I am enrolled to start on the 31st. Stevens wont take me, Prime won’t take me and I really wanted a company that serves the lower 48 so I can see the Country. I’ve driven the East Coast as much or more than some of you professionals. My company has work from Miami to Long Island and everywhere in between. I’ve got a job letter from a local company in TN that starts lower c.p.m than the majority of companies but it’s not about the $$$ to me. I’ll survive. I’m fairly confident I will be a top tier employee to any company I work for. For 30 years I’ve had to think, act, and react for as many as 20 employees. I can take care of my own obligations half asleep without igniting both half’s of my brain. Soooooooo, after filling out applications stating I’ve not had a speeding ticket or moving violation in 5 years which is accurate and factual, today my wife opens a piece of mail of my truck speeding through DC and running red light. My son drives 1 of my trucks in the field. All are registered to me. Talk about coming unglued. Giving my kids a business that generates a lot of money and I pay them more than I’m starting trucking at.

Make it a great night.

P.S. Old School, if you didn’t catch my acknowledgment in other thread of mine “ I appreciate you” and wisdom you share.

Who knew that a self employed business owner of 30 years that is behind on taxes would be unable to land a trucking job? They ALL keep asking me for a w-2 or 1099. I own and operate a Single Member LLC and it would be illegal for me to have or generate either one of those. Its 2022 and one can generate almost any documentation via that WWW thing, I just wont. My Mother raised an honest man. I can get a F.A.A. pilot job easier than this, I just don't want to sit in hotel rooms and live the commercial pilot lifestyle.

How do I "keep on trucking" if I cant even get started?

Needed to vent that.

Make it a great day.

Is it a bad time to become a trucker?

Rob T. , PJ, Ryan, and George - Thank you each for your comments and feedback.

Old School - Thank you for your wisdom and taking the time to read my bio and focus in, if you will. Just for clarification from my perspective, "my paycheck on time and correct is the only appreciation and respect I desire from my employer", PERIOD. I have worked for 1 contractor for 25 years and the past couple years they have made me fight and claw to get paid. They hold 100% pay for clerical issues that others within their company make. I have to chase their Project Managers to do their job so I can get paid on work we as a business have completed. My employees get paid every week for doing their job safely and properly.

I am coming in new to the trucking industry but am not new to a hard days work. As for customers; "They are always right, no matter how wrong they are." That as a business owner is something I live by and have tried to teach to every employee I have ever encountered and more importantly my children that are taking over the business I am gifting them.

Do think I will enjoy what this site has to offer in my new career.

Appreciate you all for feedback.

Is it a bad time to become a trucker?

At 52 with my kids both productive members of society and having been self employed with employees for 30 years, it’s time for a change for me. I know the trucking industry was at a top amid Covid and a bottom now. I’m limited to the companies that will hire new drivers and not going to buy a rig out the gate ( I use to be Mr. Jones “go big or go home” ) as I know I need to start at bottom and learn the industry.

Based on some of the salty dogs on here with experience, you know the companies that will hire a new CDL driver. Question is, which ones should I stay away from in your opinions?

Keep the rubber on the pavement. ( that is a fitting comment for many trades ) put a plane down on 2 wheels once and still paying for it.

Thanks for replies I’m advance.

Jon

( cool CB handle to follow one day )
