Medical leave

Yesterday I took my truck/trailer to the JB Hunt terminal in Winchester VA and turned them in.

So now as of today, I am on medical leave until all my treatments are completed. As far as I know, I am looking at possibly early August before all this is completed. Hopefully I will be able to go back to work at that point. It all depends on how my radiation treatments go & how I feel once that is all complete. No idea until that time as to how this all will end up.

Will be following TT more, now that I will have lots of time on my hands.

Ernie

Let's just say there is definitely a "withdrawal" period to go through ... your friends and relatives will notice you're still around three days later which is their first clue that you might be there a while ... if you show up to church more than once in a row, it's a real give-away ... too much time on your hands and NO INCOME are two more things to deal with ... all joking aside, you have serious medical issues that you will be living with and it is my hope (and prayer) that you are able hold off the depression that will try to get a foothold ... don't let it ... faith in God is a great tool at this point but I don't know if you are a believer or not ... I'm 65 days into a 90 day required "sit-out" due to a heart stint and I have accumulated way too many hours of sleep ... hopefully you will find a way to digest the change and the uncertainly ... be well ...

...so they gave me my own tractor ...

I've been trying to ignore the "blue" comments rofl-3.gif but you're pretty persistent, Jopa.

So, what's up with that? Long line at the truck stop shower? Not much to do while you're waiting?

Just waiting out my "90 Day" no-drive restriction ... I had a stint placed in the 'ole ticker and DOT says no driving for 90 days because of it ... just 30 more days and then I'll be back on the road and I won't be able to harass anyone for a while (hopefully be) too busy ... you'll be safe ... but then you've been pretty busy yourself, eh?

...so they gave me my own tractor ...

In case I wasn't clear, I do have mud-flaps ...just no fenders over the drive tires.

And thanks. The dispatcher's deliver was kinda' negative but I don't care.

And yeah, Pat, she likes to run but she's not modern enough to have cruise control. Lucky you. Heh-heh. No engine brakes, either. lol.

Again, if everything is so good, why so blue? (This is like the fourth time I've tried to get you to comment on your Avatar - maybe you'll take the bait this time, eh?)

A well-oiled Intersection?

This old trope is just lazy Women drivers they so bad, is so old Henny Youngman wouldn't touch it. PC crap? Yeah, that exists, but would you tell Starcar or Redgator they were bad drivers because they are female?

Would I TELL them, as in stating a fact that - based on their gender - they are bad drivers? Obviously not ... for one thing, I have never seen them drive and for another, they have both driven a truck much longer than I have and successfully ... would I make a joke about women drivers in their presents? If the opportunity came up and it was funny in context, more than likely YES because I tend to make fun of a lot of things - it's just my sense of humor ... sure, making a joke about women drivers is probably old and well worn and maybe too corny for Henny Youngman ... but to label it "misogyny" is over the top ... there is a vast difference between making use of an "old joke" - which is at best a failed attempt at humor - and being hateful towards someone ... make all the explanations you want about "free speech" and the internet but you are just WRONG to bring in the word misogyny into this dialogue ... no one was hating anyone and all of your intellectualizing does not make it appropriate nor accurate ... here's a sample of my humor that could well be mistaken for "hate speech" ... "...oh well, what does he know, he's Canadian ..." Now I mean nothing bad by it as it is something I often say (in context) to a very good friend of mine who is from Canada ... he gives as good as he gets and he would never take offence to me saying that because no offence was intended ... it's just something that I might think was funny at the time ... you don't know me so you may very well think I am being prejudiced or hateful ... nope, just not funny if you fail to see the humor intended ...

Any Reefer drivers here?

Most often, the order of fuelling will depend on where you're fuelling at. Pilot/Flying J usually goes tractor, DEF, reefer. Same with Love's. TA/Petro are a little wonky. Some of their locations, for reasons that defy any sense of logic, have you fill the tractor, pull up and fill the reefer, then hang the pump up, BACK YOUR TRUCK BACK UP TO ALIGN WITH THE DEF PUMP, then call the attendant or walk into the fuel desk to manually authorize DEF. Generally speaking, I avoid doing all 3 at TA or Petro because of this. If necessary, I'll make an extra stop to do the reefer as a separate thing if one of my fuel stops is at a TA or Petro, because doing the Fuel Island Cha-cha is ridiculous.

... I was gonna add that if you do the DEF before the refer than you don't have to move the truck up & back to align the pump with the refer tank ... which is what Fatsquatch is saying ... I've always done it tractor, DEF and then refer but I didn't know some fueling stations require a different order ...

World's first self-driving truck

So it’s no surprise some of the country’s largest freight carriers have in recent years started equipping their vehicles with active safety features like lane control and automatic braking. The economic case for these measures—the predecessors to fuller autonomy—is clear, says Noël Perry, an economist who specializes in transportation and logistics.

... and if you have driven one with these devices (I have - a bunch) you know what a pile of junk they are and how annoying that "Uhhh" sound is every time you cross a lane line (whether it's really one or just a crack with tar to fill it in) ... or had the damn truck decelerate just before you are ready to pull to the left lane to pass a slower truck OR had the damn thing slam on the brakes because it sees a bridge abutment on a curve and thinks it is a stationary object in the road ... there is NO WAY these "safety devices" are safer than a driver who is doing his job ... it's a huge lawsuit waiting to happen when an "autonomous" truck kills a family in a mini-van - and it WILL happen ...

What is ace orientation upgrade class with prime?

ACE II is the follow-up class for lease operators after you've been on the road for a couple of weeks ... they go over your "settlements" to help you understand the paperwork so it makes more sense (it NEVER makes complete sense unless you are an accountant) ... plus they give you advice about mileage and things of that nature to help you maximize your income ... you might even have to do the Smith thing but I could be wrong about that - maybe that was only part of the ACE I ... anyway, just stuff to help you be more successful ...

Juicers

Does anyone have experience with juicers on the road? If so, can you recommend a good one? Would love to continue juicing once l get on the road.

I have a "Nutri-Bullet" and I prefer it to juicing because it doesn't create any "waste" - you drink everything ... it is relatively cheap and it works really good for fruits or vegetables or both combined ... Walmart has them for less than $100 - pretty sure might it be a bit lower now since they have been around for a while ...
