Green card!

double-quotes-start.png

Hi all, This here Limey is looking to live and work in Florida by next year, now there is a good chance I'll have my green card so will that exclude me from the 12 month licence waiting to go truck driving? Your great knowledge would be appreciated Thanks Iain

Not sure, I would contact the State of Florida to find the answer. Just because I/we say it's ok, does not mean we are correct. Always best to get the information straight from the source.

Ernie

Hi Ernie, Thanks for taking the time, looks like I'm stuck to small time jobs till I can grow up with the big boys :). Iain

Green card!

Iain, I'm afraid that is not going to help you, but here's a thought - you may be able to find a job driving a small delivery truck that doesn't require a CDL. But you are going to have to wait for that one year time frame of holding a drivers license in the U.S. before they let you into one of our beautiful "bendy lowries".

Hi, Bummer!!!!! Ohhh well still going to get married anyway and thank you I was getting the feeling I might have to do that, find anything to grinder the time down, thanks for your advice. Iain

Hi Jopa, If I knew enough about USA and where the best places are to live I'd agree or disagree all I can say is that in Florida is a most beautiful lady and when you find one it don't matter where I guess!! :) Time will tell, hope your training is going well. Regards Iain

Where is Florida will you be moving to? I am living in the Jacksonville area & love it. Good luck to you.

Hi Tony, She lives ormond beach way, I'll be there this coming January for 3 weeks then take it from there, sounds like a lot to do to take up the driving but I'm sure it's all worth it. I did see shnieder have a depot not far from you, worth looking into? Thanks for your support. Iain

I believe you also have to be licensed here in the states for a period of 1 year - before you can apply for a CDL.

Rick

Hi Rick, Sounds like just another hoop! O well keep on trucking I guess! :) Thanks rick

No age limit, you will be required to take all tests, cdl in europe doesnt mean anything in usa, so youll have to take permit test, all the works, i know cause my puerto rican friend had to do same thing to get his usa cdl even though puerto rico is a satellite state to usa

Thanks Jeffrey, Great to know all that I'll add it to my growing list of to dos! :) Cheers Iain

Hi everyone, I've not had a chance to go through all the blogs on this forum, so I bow to your wisdom in how I go about becoming a truck driver in the states. I'm 49 been driving bendy lorries almost 25 years now on and off. I've got back in touch with an old flame and she lives in Florida with thanks to that great institution face book! I'm interested to know if there's an age limit on getting in, will I require to go through all your tests etc? Do I require a sponsor from a company I've heard that's the most important thing to have? Any info at this stage would be great, I'm heading over in December through till 20th jan holiday ect so looking forward to that, Many thanks to all on this site it's been great reading. Iain
