Back to the future, re the 34 hour restart...

The breaking system killed 4 friends of mine last year, not exactly big news but it's people I knew.

the reason the 73 hour limits people on a 70/8 week is it reduces the number of possible hours you can run when you reset. You can run over 80 hours now using a reset.

Also if you can only gain 3 hours what's the point of resetting at that point.

If you read articles about it they said they want to do it even though itshe against all data provided it has nothing to do with safety it's political, to remove power from the FMCSA.

Driving sick

Any cold remedy without alcohol is ok for the most part.

Bottom line is no matter what if you are unsafe to drive park it.

Back to the future, re the 34 hour restart...

Politics needs to stay out of trucking. Speed limiters and "other safety devices" do nothing but increase danger to drivers both in the truck and outside it.

They need to stop trying to put bandaids on issues and fix the problem. Most drivers that start do not have a fraction of the training they need, with that if trained properly you do not need speed limiters and that god awful self braking system that claims the lives of drivers every year for going off at the wrong time.

As far as the 34 hour reset change, they completely miss the point of the reset. To make that if you use the reset you are then capped at 73 hours for the week causes more hours for the guys that do the 60 hours 7 days week and it hinders the guys on the 70 hours 8 day week.

It will also cripple the ability for the FMCSA to change HoS in the future. Its typical political ignornace trying to change things they have absolutly no clue about.

IMO bring back regulation in trucking, so everything stop being low bid, from equipment to training to pay.

WILL MY CDL BE DENIED, IM MEXICAN WITH DACA WORK PERMIT AND SSC

Well I am not a permanent resident but I am here legally and have a work permit

double-quotes-start.png

Hello, so I want to become a truck driver. After using this page I successfully passed all written exams. However a friend and told me he heard of ppl not being US citizens or permanent residents getting a permit and passing the driving test but then receiving a letter saying your CDL will not be issued. DOES ANYBODY KNOW A MEXICAN PERSON WITH THE DACA (DREAM ACT OR DEFFERED ACTION) VISA THAT GOT THEIR CDL IN CALIFORNIA. IVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND CANT FIND ANSWERS IVE CALLED SCHOOLS AND THE DMV BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE . I DONT GIVE ANT TO BURN MY 1000$ ON TRUCKING DRIVING SCHOOL TO THEN GET DENIED. I DO HAVE MY CA DRIVERS LICENSE BUT I HEARD STORIES OF CDL DENIALS BUT HAVE NOT MET ANYBODY YET WHO WENT THROUGH IT.

From what i have been told you must be a legal resident. I do not know what is entailed from that but i was sitting in a drivers lounge not long ago talking politics (dont ask) and a guy from Mexico put in his 2 cents saying who he would vote for if he could vote and the question was asked how he got a CDL he said he worked his butt off to be a legal resident to get his CDL.

I do not know what you got to do or if you are already listed as that but that is what i was told by a non citizen that works for the same company as i do

Petition that will require states to create more truck parking

Definately will sign but my only issue with it is bathrooms. As a woman that's a necessity! Even a porta potty will work. Just something...

Any ladies with me?

not limited to just females... everyone deserves a place to go to the bathroom and not feel like an animal

Solo or team ?

There is only one person i trust enough to team with. Keep that in mind that you life is in someone elses hands when you are in the back of the truck. If he derps out you life is on the line with his. Solo you own all your actions.

From what i have seen with most teams one driver ends up being the boss the other the you know what. That is why most teams do not last very long. The ones that do are generally couples. Also remember regardless of who does the most driving you split everything so if you average 550 miles a day and the other guy does 400 a day hes getting payed the same for less work.

1st backing incident & question

If you think hitting stuff is normal that is a bad mindset to be in IMO.

There is never a good reason you hit something, if you are not 100% sure you are not going to hit something GET OUT AND LOOK... GOAL do it often.

Incidents are not the end of the world but they can limit future options, for instance Wal Mart wants a 100% clean record anything on it and you are off their list basically.

Like i said not the end of the world but be careful, do 100 pull ups if it means not hitting something.

Slow season question

As an experienced driver I always shot for about 3,000 - 3,200 miles per week. That was a great week.

About 2,700 - 3,000 miles was a little slow but not a tragedy.

Anything under 2,700 was worthy of serious concern.

Anything under 2,500 and phone calls had to be made.

But that was with experience. Your first year take about 300 miles off of those numbers. And also keep in mind that getting those kind of numbers consistently meant doing things like moving appointment times forward, constantly hounding dispatch for more miles, and doing everything I could to keep things moving. If you just sit back and hope for the best you'll never get anywhere near those miles consistently. You have to push things. You have to try to get loaded and unloaded early, you have to push for pre-plans, and you have to roll every chance you get.

this... if i hit below 2500 I'm talking to someone above my dispatcher. As it is on Monday i will have a conversation with one that will be a bit less then kind. I did a "favor" for one of the weekend dispatcher guys and my reward was no freight until Monday, 47 hours from when i unloaded until my next load picks up. I will let the real manager know that i will never run another load for that guy period.

Swift Training now or wait til August?

IMO if you have the means to wait then wait until late fall. The most dangerous time of year is winter to drive a truck and if possible having the ability to have help when you need it is invaluable.

just my 2 cents and its only if you have the means to wait.. regardless i would wait until after a pending important event, never ever trust a recruiter.
