That's crap. Find a class that will really train you. You need the time in the truck, not someone saying you spent 160 hours in it. Most companies will test you out. Kind of a driving tryout. You don't have to be perfect but they don't want to retrain someone that was just trained. Its not easy finding a school. Best of luck. I would ask the local college's. Its a lot of paper work and little out of pocket. Most can be covered through pell and hope.

So, J. Sanders, are you saying that I would NOT necessarily need 160 as a minimum as long as I've been properly trained? I've just read so much on the board where it says that when a rookie goes to look for a job, they won't take you seriously if you don't have a certificate showing a minimum of 160 hours of training. I'm going to check with the colleges as you suggested (thank you), as I see that one around my area actually has 225 hours of training over 30 days. But I just want to make sure that I understand what you're saying -- that you DO agree that 160 hours are needed or if you DON'T agree as long as you're properly trained.

Thanks!

You need a minimum of 160 hours Real training. Anything more than that is a plus. No less.

Thanks for the response. I just spoke to Mr. George's School which seems to have a pretty good track record. However, when I asked them about the 160-minimum hours of training certificate, they said that it would not necessarily take those many hours. They said it all depends on the student. For example, a student may complete the "unlimited" course in 20 hours unless they WANT to put in more hours. OR - a student may need to take one course over more than once (or twice) in order to feel comfortable with that portion of the program. In that case, they would get 5.25 hours since each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes. I asked what they give the person upon graduating, and they said a certificate showing whatever number of hours they put in.

Does this seem strange to anyone? And would companies not take a rookie seriously if they had less than 160 hours?

Women in Trucking seeking female drivers for Image Team

http://www.overdriveonline.com/women-in-trucking-seeking-female-drivers-for-image-team/. witlogo.png

Women in Trucking (WIT) is seeking qualified female drivers to become a part of their Image Team, the group announced last week. The WIT Image Team will represent the goals of WIT while bringing awareness of the need for more women in the trucking industry and the obstacles that women face, WIT says.

WIT says ideal candidates will be articulate, safety-conscious drivers who would be able to perform the following duties:

* Talk positively and honestly about what they know

* Attend at least one major truck show per year (this requirement is flexible)

* Write articles from a driver’s point of view about Women in Trucking

* Be available for media interviews

* Attend conference calls or webinars as needed

* Position on Image Team can be held up to 2 years (consideration given for extension upon re-application)

* Mentor new Image Team members

In order to be eligible, drivers must have an outstanding safety record, be able to speak convincingly about their commitment to safety and represent the trucking industry in a positive light through their appearances and must have been a member of WIT for at least one year. Additional requirements can be found on WIT’s website.

In order to begin the application process, the female driver’s company must complete and return the 2015 Image Application no later than January 31, 2015. The application can be found here. The top ten qualifying applicants will participate in a selection interview in February, 2015 via conference telephone call. Image Team training will begin for new members in March 2015.

HEAR ME roar! What's Happening So Far!

Usually it has to do with name changes

That's what I was thinking as well. Oh and having trust issues with your recruiter. I would say throw some salt on whatever they say. Call in with another name and ask another recruiter. Maybe that will help?

Seems some of the things they ask for are kind of ridiculous... why do they need marriage and divorce papers? I am applying for a job to hold a steering wheel not launch nuclear warheads. Way over the top requirements kind of amazing they can actually hire anyone.

The DMV needs them. I think....
