Report From Quality Drivers/Celadon School in Laredo, TX

Since October, I am waiting for a trainer. How long would you wait?

I finished my orientation the week before Christmas and am leaving otr with my trainer in a couple of hours. Are you waiting for a nonsmoking trainer? I hear those are hard to come by. A few people told me the best way to get a trainer is to make friends online and it's seemed to work for a couple people. The way i found a trainer was i made friends with a guy who was finishing the program when i was starting and he finished his otr training the week i was finishing orientation so i talked his trainer and he agreed to take me on. I'm not picky, though, as long as they're clean lol

Transgender Women In Trucking (Please don't laugh...not a joke)

I guess I am wondering why people want to complicate their already complex decisions by entering a field that is filled with men who will NEVER on earth respect them. I was born female, am female and will stay female. I am not protected class. I am not lesbian. My mature age and gender are not given any special consideration at all by 98% of the male students at trucker school. Why should you or anyone with such an issue with gender identity expect BETTER treatment than those of us born and bred female by openly proclaiming your transgender status? Seems like the only place you would want to be open about it would be on the physical exam in privacy of doctor-patient relationship. All the laws on the books aren't going to change reality of the overwhelming majority of men driving the goods in this country or any other. Just being real with you.

This is a ridiculous response. If she wants to be a trucker and "complicate her already complex decision" she has the same rights and opportunities we all do. Did anyone tell you not to go into a male dominated field because you're old? And if they did, did it stop you? Not being sexually harrassed is NOT special treatment, it's the law and it's our RIGHT.

So Prime denied me...

Until Prime tells you, you really don't know why they denied you and you are just guessing. It could be because of your child or it could be something totally different.

I got out of trucking 23 yrs ago. It was more male dominated back then than it is now. I can attest that companies DO want women....I got lots of requests to check out companies, even tho I haven't driven for a long time. The big companies have no issue with my long ago driving time. The small company I went with, their insurance company only allowed me to go as a team with my brother for the next 6 mths...which is fine. We get along pretty well.

Call them back or write a note/email and bug the recruiter to see what the reason was that you were denied. Maybe they'll consider you persistent enough to be considered to be hired.....stranger things have happened.

I emailed the recruiter after receiving the denial email and she hasnt responded. But...

Just got an acceptance letter from celadon and training is in my home state so im pretty psyched!

So Prime denied me...

I've been calling my recruiter for weeks now and finally she emailed me to tell me that theyll be going with "more qualified drivers" at this time. I emailed back asking if there were problems with my application so that i can fix anything but I'm just about positive she will not respond. I dont know what it could be that is holding me back, only Stevens Transport has called me back and they're kind of my last choice right now. Im feeling extremely discouraged right now. I keep wondering if I'm being judged as a mother of a small child, wanting to leave home for work. I'm so disappointed and I just want to know why i was denied.

I guess my question is this: Have any of you ever felt discriminated against for being female, or being a mother? Is being female in a male dominated industry going to limit my number of job opportunities with quality companies?

Any mother truckers out there?

Firstly--- hello everyone, I'm Brandi. I'm currently studying via The High Road training materials to get my permit. Ive submitted an app with Prime but never heard back. I called and left my recruiter a message but still no response. I know work history is a big issue with trucking companies and i have a large, one year gap in 2012 because, well... i had a baby. I stated this in my app but my question (finally) is: is that gap going to be a major issue with trucking companies? Also I'd like to ask any mothers out there: how do you feel about leaving your children when you're on the road for weeks at a time?
