Time to do it..!!!

Well,,,, Its about that time. I have made my choice. Starting the 19th I'm in a class at CDS in Woodford Va. Seems like a real good choice. 4 weeks of schooling there. Life time job placement assistance with them they say. Of course with the help of the HR training program I WILL have my permit before I go. Thanks Brett, Old School, Daniel and the rest of course, that make comments and get great information out there and available here on this site for those of us thinking about doing this lifestyle. I may not make many post but I look and read and keep up to date. I'm going to start applying so I have pre-hire letters. They will have recruiters come in and talk to us, just don't know who's going to be there. But it looks like I'll apply to Maverick, Knight, Prime, oh well,, a lot of them. Be funny though,,,,, I'm a Navy vet, so watch,,,, USA Truck will take me. (how patriot would that be). Started to buy supplies a couple of months ago, like new jeans, a couple pair of gloves, batteries for my flashlight. Still need more stuff though. Ill have time. Would like some in put on other supplies though. What do you guys really use? I know I have to get a CB, some kind of cooler, shower shoes. What else? Starting to get nervous. Just never thought, me driving a 70+foot, 80,000 lbs. truck forwards and backwards. AAAAHHHH. Thanks again guys and ladies..

Is Per Diem good or bad?

Hi guys, I ran across this driver from Millis and he talks about per diem. I found it informative. He has lots of volgs. Might want to check it out.

Big City Driving

I'm still really thinking about doing this line of work. I know in my head I can do it, but,,,,, I'm deathly scarred of driving a 70+ foot truck in the big cities. I mean really, those lanes get really narrow. Not to mention the sharp turns when in the city. I sit and think about driving in NYC and say well, ill just go with a company that doesn't go NYC, well, I want to go with one that does force NYC. One company that has no NYC is not hiring from VA unless I fork out the money for the school. Can someone please help calm my fears?

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall ?

Hello everyone !! 48 year old navy vet here. I have been watching and reading the post here (trolling) for a few months now. Great site BTW. Been thinking about trucking for awhile now and I haven't seen any questions on training and the time of year. Would it be a good idea to start CDL training in the winter months or wait till spring? My thinking is that if I start in the winter I could get some good on the road training with the hazards of snow and ice with the trainer, instead of being left to find things out on my own after a spring or summer class. What do you guys think?
