Ice princess's Bio

Kids are grown, Love my job but it is time for changes. It is a dead end job, I am temp. When I spoke with the driver, he asked why I didn't get my cdl, I didn't have a good answer. Next week, I studied and got my permit.

Dad was a trucker, spent many a nights in the truck with him. Grew up wanting to drive but ended up having a family. I always turn when I here the sound and blood starts pumping when I smell the fuel.

I quit my job. Decided to go with Knight, I am scheduled to go beginning of next month. Nerves are fraying. I have been dreaming of this for 30 years. It is time for me.

Wish me luck.

I am hired

I passed my physical, yes. I was so excited. This week, I picked up where I left off last month. We did Smith training, which is very interesting and helpful in thinking about safety. On Friday, we worked on the pre trip. They remind us that it is an accelerated program and that we will be testing in two weeks. I have been working on memorizing the pre trip today and tomorrow since they expect us to know it on Monday. If I fail the test in two weeks, I will be brought back for one more week then retake the test. I can't wait to get some time behind the wheel.

After that I will be out with a trainer for about 4 weeks then solo for 30k miles, come back to Knight and do a test to be off probation and truly a knight employee.

All in all, everything that I have heard from other drivers us that it is a great place to work.

Best paid training ..opininons?

This site is a wealth of knowledge. I studied and spoke with various recruiters. Personally, I choose knights after it am hired and while training, I will be paid $400 per week, they pay for the bus ticket, hotel room and breakfast is provided at the hotel. I will know more on Tuesday when I get back there. Due to where I live, I was limited but I am very excited about my choice.

I'm trying to stay positive but...

I understand I called my old boss as soon as I found out that I was going home, she requested that I stay for a month to help with transition of my replacement, seemed like a small price to pay for being allowed to return. My recruiter mentioned that she would have to talk to safety to see how to proceed, which is where I got the impression that they would be willing to work with me if I needed a machine. I got a 2 on the questions that I gad to send in with the machine. She said that there were times it has taken almost 10 days to get the results back, when did you send yours in? Hope this helps.

I'm trying to stay positive but...

I sent my machine two Fridays ago and got the call the following Wednesday or Thursday of last week, they said they usually don't get them back that fast. It was nerve wrecking. After my recruiter got the results, then she called my employer for employment verification before she called me. The lab also called me with the results I got the impression that if my number was too high I may need a machine it was still be possible. It will work out.

Knight sent me home for sleep apena study, I too was nervous, I just quit my postal job. I did the study and results came back normal. I think worse case would be Capp machine. Going there march 2 perhaps see you there if you are going to the indianopolis terminal.

I am hired

Hello Errol,

I was in Indy for orientation earlier this month. Their dr sent me home to do a home sleep study. I got the go ahead from their dr, I don't have sleep problems. I have spoken with local companies, friends, but they are unable to let me use their trucks, insurance purposes. I am just an hour (40 miles) south of the UP.

have you been up here? A called a lot of companies and most larger companies will not hire from here. I actually lucky that two that I was really interested in would hire me from this area.

I did back a truck up once but I ran over the imaginary building, in my defense, I didn't see it.

Ready or not

Long story, long time ago there was this trucker who had children, the oldest was a girl, he wanted a boy so this trucker taught his daughter almost everything he knew. He took her in the truck when he drove for a company, taught her to wrench and handed her the keys to his straight truck. He pointed out the clutch, brake and go pedal, put the first shifting lever in low, go through your gears then move both to the next level. I love semis, nothing more beautiful, sorry side tracked.

Jumping ahead, I now raised my children and I am single. I just quit my job to go to knight to learn to drive. My Dad didn't have a tractor and trailer, I never backed up. I am very nervous, any words of wisdom on backing them up? I may be over thinking this, but is there a lot of customers where it is difficult to get into? I only use mirrors when backing a car plus for me. But only plus. Things are different from when I was in a truck.

Has anyone gone through Knight training? I think it is called something else. I heard Squire there. I was down there but sent home to do a sleep study. Thankfully my job took me back for a few weeks until I got the test results back so I have a paycheck.

Words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I am hired

After a lot of agreements with myself, I decided to do it. I got my cdl permit. Ok, now what do I do with it? Local trucking companies, family owned, Can not let me borrow their truck to practice with, I tried;) I researched the internet and made many calls. Down to Roehl and Knight. Believe it or not, it is difficult to get a company to hire you, I am in northern michigan and other companies would not hie me. Guess difficult to get home time.

Comes down to Roehl offers flatbed and Knight offered dry van. Sorry, not sure about tarping in the middle of winter. I quit my job and go down to Indy for orientation with Knight and physical, I just got my medical card earlier that month this is a piece of cake. Nope, I was wrong. Blood pressure and everything else is fine. I have to do a sleep apena test. I am calling my old boss back, can I come back to work because I will be now without a paycheck until the test comes back. She is great, I have my job back, I guess she was excited to have me back.

The testing machine came in the, I strapped everything on, it is a home test. First night, oh my goodness, I can't sleep, I am hooked up like a lab rat. Call up the company that reads it test, they say do a second night, another night it is difficult to sleep. Week latter, get this phone call from the lab, oh I am normal, not really;) but test says I am good to go. Knight calls, I am hired, down side,, work needs me for a couple of weeks to make it easier on my replacement, small sacrifice for letting me come back.

I am nervous about backing up and passing my cdl test. But for me, this is a dream come true. I can't help but turn my head and check out every truck I hear, ok, too mushy.
