Starting my career at Prime

I just got my CDL with Prime. You don't have to get your permit before going there. They will give a letter of residency and you will get your permit there when you do your written exam. After you got your CDL, you will transfer your CDL to your home state. Good luck

Greetings all!

I've looked through a lot of these forums and I have yet to find any NEW information in regards to going into Prime.

So here's my question: CDL permits will not transfer to Missouri with an out of state permit, so why bother getting it prior? I am studying the material and (cannot thank you posters enough) getting through all of the information and training guides in this and another forum. I just don't see why I should obtain my permit prior to going to prime since I will have to take the test all over again.

What's the best time of the year to start the school? I was looking at a start date in November so that I can get some great winter driving knowledge from a trainer since the training time is so long.

Thanks again for any/all your feedback too.

The journey have began

After 4 months of thinking, researching, and making decisions, it´s time. I´m getting into truck driving. After living most of my life in Costa Rica, I´m relocating to Atlanta tomorrow to start the process. At 53, my sons are grown up now and is time to go after my dreams.

I can´t thank enough Brett, the moderators, and the people that post here for this site. It´s been a great help in getting information.

I have made my decision on going thru a company sponsored school. Because of cost, and because I want to learn the ropes from a big company. I have a business plan full of hard work and ambition. I understand that this is a business based on customer service and being professional, and I think my background on working in hard environments in the hospitality and project management will help me on my goals.

Thanks again and I will keep you posted.

Regards

Your stuff in the truck when you are off

Hi, I have seen that most drivers carry a lot of personal stuff in the truck.

What do you do with this stuff when you leave the truck for your days off? You take everything out?

When the truck is sent to the shop?

Does anybody else drives the truck when you are off?

Thanks

Off duty time and sight-seeing...

If you have to take your 34 far from home, do the company pays for the safe haven? do they pay for hotel or you sleep in the truck?

double-quotes-start.png

Can anyone elaborate on this issue? I'm excited about trucking but not spending days in a sleeper, stuck at a truck stop. Does company policy vary that much on this issue? I had thoughts of taking a 10-speed along and seeing the sites in my off-duty time. Does a truck stop count as a "safe haven" to leave the company vehicle or how does one get to the same. I plan to drive for Roehl but if they are unreasonable on this point maybe I should refocus... Thanks

Again it's totally company policy. Some companies consider only company yards a safe haven and others might consider a truck stop a save haven as long as it's not a high crime area.

Getting my license with a foreign driver license.

Hi, thanks for your input. Next week I have two phone interviews, will ask about it. I need to reconfirm but in Texas you don´t need to wait one year. But not sure if someone will employ me with a record to check. That´s what the interviews are for.

I used to have a Florida Drivers License back in the late 80´s, but I called and they told me that is too old and without movement on the file is already out of the system.

Every time I go to the US I drive with my Costa Rican license.

Thanks again and take care

John, the biggest problem that most people run into in your situation is that you are required to hold a U.S. license for one year before you can get the Commercial drivers license. So, more than likely you will need to get over here and get your drivers license, then focus on finding some sort of work you can do for that first year until you can apply for the CDL. You may possibly get around this if you have ever held a U.S. license before, but I am just not sure about that.

Getting my license with a foreign driver license.

Thanks a lot. Take care

All that matters is the state in which you get your CDL. Hope that helps. Happy Thanksgiving to you, and an early welcome back to the states!!!

Getting my license with a foreign driver license.

Hello. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I´m a US citizen but have been living almost all my life in Costa Rica. I have dual citizenship.

I´m 53 years old and I´m going back to the USA next January and really want to become a truck driver.

I have done my homework, reading blogs, watching videos, and I'm clear about how hard it is, but also about how rewarding is.

Have one question and would appreciate any advice.

I don't have a US drivers license. Can I apply to CDL with my Costa Rica license? for what I have seen, apparently there is no problem in Texas or California. But want to make sure.

Thanks in advance for any help
