Is this safe regarding your team driver?

I think I have found a good team driver that lives very close to my home. The only thing I am really worried about is he is a sleepwalker. Does this sound like a recipe for disaster? I have heard it is very hard to wake up a person that is sleep walking. I think it might be scary if he does this while we are driving. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Joe I am not trucking yet but I do have experience with the sleep walking part. We had a guy in our recon group in the Army that was a big sleep walker, he claims and we agreed that it was the only way he got through Ranger School was this "Special" ability. However his issue was a problem in vehicles, during airborne operations and even almost bit us in the ass when we were on a mission over seas.

I don't know how bad the persons is that your referring to but this guy was EXTREMELY hard to wake up fully, he would act almost totally awake in actions and movements but you could tell no one was a the wheel behind the eyes. If he is hard to wake up it is not something that Id want to have in a vehicle behind me while I was trying to drive. Even strapping him in may not fix it, our guy could keep up on a ruck march, and even unclip himself from the annoying 5point harnesses we had in the MRAPS and try and walk around. If yours is as bad its not a combination for smooth and SAFE situation for yourself being on the receiving end of it.

Accepted to Prime training school, question about Hazmat

double-quotes-start.png

Thank you everyone. So even though I live in NC, I should get my permit before I leave? Will I have to get a Missouri permit when I get there or just test for the Missouri CDL? Also, I am assuming that you have to pay for the High Road Training Program on here?

double-quotes-end.png

I live in NC also Martin, and it wasn't hard to get the permit, I tested for my permit in Huntersville NC and passed it first try. It is 100 questions for the class A and it is computerized, the computer reads the questions off to you also. There is a skip function so you can skip questions you aren't 100% sure on and the test will complete as soon as you meet the passing requirement. For example General Knowledge is 50 questions and if you pass 41 of 50 questions the section will auto complete. So you may not even make it back to the skipped questions. I studied High Road for like 2 weeks just read through basically, and then took like a 2 week hiatus and came back to it and finished combo vehicles and went and sat for the permit. I was prepared to fail the first time just to see what it was like, because in NC you get three attempts for the $30 fee. Then there is an additional $15 for the actual permit card. Study up on road signs because NC will give you a sign test and you can't miss any at all. There are 12 signs that they show you, and you will have to pass a color test, and eye test, along with a peripheral vision test. Also all you need is your Driver's License, I took my birth certificate and a bunch of other crap that I thought I needed after reading the NC DMV website. Good luck, and if you are worried just go take the test once and see where you stand. Like I said you don't lose anything but like 30 mins. You have to pay the 30.00 any ways and you get 3 attempts with that application fee. You may pass it and not have to sweat it any longer. BTW I am going to prime on Jan 5th also, so we are on the same path.

Did you have to schedule your test or did you basically walk in and take it? Did you take any endorsements? Electronic for those as well? Still $30 for the testing including those or are those extra?

Well just got accepted for Prime. I think I'm going to go that route after seeing so many people talking more positive about Prime than I have for CR England or for Scott. I'll be on the bus the 17th and start the 19th with class the 19th-23rd. The recruiter strongly recommended getting my permit before going out there as the class is shorter than usual due to the weekend so would only have 2 chances to test if I didn't come with it.

I'm going to pick back up on the class online here and try and knock out the permit Thursday or Friday while everything is fresh. I'll feel just like my army classes hopefully and absorb it as quick as possible.

For the permit test do you have a driving portion as well or all just written in order to get you in a vic to start practicing?

I'm really excited as the program and the operation has a better feeling than what I was getting with the other companies.

I was told the 19-23rd for the school, in truck for 3 weeks after that at 200 per week pay if I need it during that time, followed by 8-10 weeks at 700 per week guaranteed pay. Does that sound right or anything hidden in that I'm not aware of from you Prime guys? It really accomplishes trying to get out and driving and being able to support my family quicker from what I can tell and that 700 weekly pay will go a long way to get me ahead on money so that the family isn't struggling while I get my feet under me in the truck.

Hi Brent.. I see that you live in the Fayetteville area. You might want to consider N.C. Truck Driver Training School. I attended the school in Smithfield but they recently opened up one near you. The total cost is around a grand but the training is very good. Talk to as guy name Ben down there. With the cost being cheaper, you may be able to handle it out of pocket or with GI credits. The reason I say this is because then you will not be limited to applying to companies that reimburse tuition. Good luck.

Is it just called Carolina trucking school? Do you happen to have the contact number for the one here?

Brian and David thanks for the replies. I located the mass applier app here and have filled it out so hopefully that can produce some more leads.

I re emailed CR England with more questions but have not heard anything at all yesterday so we shall see. I would love to start before the end of the year but I also don't want to jump in and end up high and dry. I am really worried about some other news about the school as I have heard most of the driving time is spent 3 or 4 to a truck which decreased the amount of driving time everyone had before testing. I'm not super worried about driving as I have done hmvee with trailer all the way to Bradley vehicles but my experience with trailers is limited so want to make sure that I can get squared away with that as quickly as possible. I am really one of those guys that prefers to learn by repetition and just doing whatever is required so the more hands on I can get the quicker I pick it up.

I was trying to find the edit function as well but guess I can add it in here.

Any hidden costs or extras that I need to make sure the company does or doesn't take care of while I'm talking to recruiters?
