Reformed Squid's Bio

I am a veteran, certified Fire Fighter and EMT. I come from a family of Vets and Truckers in that order. I did get my CDL in the military and missed the transfer deadline Texas offers by 6 days. I work for McElroy and love it there so far

Welcome aboard, if you have any questions feel free to ask I am one of the trainers/ mentors and I will do my best to answer them.

Hey there everybody. Just wanted to add my 2cents about McElroy if I can. I am in Emporia VA now and just finished my first day of Orientation. So far all I can say is its very laud back and easy going. Brent is a great guy and who you will meet first in this location. Rooms at the best Western are really nice compared to alot I've been in and very clean for the most part. Microwave and Fridge. TV with cable. Continental breakfast in the morning. There is a fair amount of paper work to begin with and even some homework lol. Class is very small. Only 2 here today and that's including myself LOL. But I'm not complaining because I'm sure we will get lots of hands on and one on one training. If I can be any assistance to anyone looking at McElroy I'll try and answer questions also. Yall have a good night ! Got to be there at 7 in the morning.

Hey right lane weekly mileage average is yes. Lol, you will run every week I have had some weeks where I only ran 1400, & I have had a couple above 2500. 2700 is my best week. To be completely honest with you 1900-2200 is the best I van offer. To add you spouse depends on the package but $75 a week is bout right. Don't need steel toe boots there is not a place for a fridge but some of us have the coolerators and they work fine. We don't have inventors so everything is 12V. But there are plenty of those plugs in these trucks. There is a referral bonus don't know what it is or how long you have to be with the company to get it. And we get raises annually with max out at 49 or 48 cpm.

Cali is not in the recruiting area. There has been talk of expanding further west, nothing solid has been put out there though.

Greeting all, new to the site here. Have read through the entire post here. Lots of good info. Will be finishing up CDL school next week but due to the holidays cannot test till 5 January. Have an app in with McElroy, Kasey is the recruiter I have been talking with. Today we had a McElroy recruiter stop by, lots of benefits that make me want to take a closer look with them. The home weekends, being able to park at Lowes, $250/month tuition reimbursement, 46 cents/mile starting out, free driver healthcare, 65% pre tarped loads! Have an invite for orientation with Maverick but am going to have a hard time deciding as I really like what I have read here and heard by talking with the recruiters. Thanks to everyone for posting your experience about McElroy.

Hey Stella welcome aboard. This is a great site you will get no b.s. answers and get some aquick replies. You should do fine on your test, bc that day in history 32 years ago a great man was born.... Me lol. Anyhow I am a driver mentor/trainer with McElroy ask anything you want and I will answer honestly good bad and the ugly.

I should be making my way north this week or so I was told. I should have a trainee next week which means he should finish as you are ready for one. I'm looking forward to running up there.

Be early, use your manners have homework done early. Any chance you have to get behind the wheel jump on it, it will make things easier when you get with your trainer. Where are you from?

I am a trainer or as we call em a driver mentor. Week 1 is what a call a freebie week, we are learning each other and you are learning the rig. There is a lot of training on ld securement and practice of backing and driving. Week 2 we are going to key in on areas that need improvement floating backing etc. Week 3 you're making all the calls trip plan, load checks, and during this week you will do one load absolutely solo to get a feel of what it's like. Week 4 I am there bc I have to be lol but it's your show and I will teach you some of the cool stuff in the industry. I am getting ready to head north for a few months to make some extra money. If you have any questions feel free to ask. A bunch of good guys here. Best of luck.

Luther there are going to be some good weeks and some crappy weeks. A lot does depend on the region you will run also. There are some opportunities to run some dedicated accts for a little while 3-4 weeks and it pays extremely well. Like parrot said I am also going up to wheat field to train a new guy from the area in the next couple weeks. To be honest I am a rookie driver also and my avg gross has been 990. There have been weeks where I barely cleared the min pay of 600 gross and then weeks I have demolished it lol. Speed is the key the less time you are jacking with your load the more money you make plain and simple.

Hey Luther I started as a regular ole Texas driver, then I was running 90% out of Nashville Ar. Just recently I was made a driver mentor been doing that almost a month now. I recommend running your area and getting experience on the road before running dedicated local. You have potential to make good money either way, but learn your truck and trailer along with its capabilities and limitations. When you run local you are exposed to much more traffic and tight turns, don't set yourself up for failure. Samdaman there are some pretty big corn fed fellers out here, like Samuel said we hardly ever get on the load. This is some hard work and you will lose weight doing this, but ultimately this decision is based on your will and determination if you want it bad enough you will make it happen.

Last I heard he was doing real well. Likewise man, we must have knocked about 6 trucks today. It was really awesome for that to happen, I told my trainer about it and he said that's how it use to be a couple of years ago, he said hopefully I may have started it up again we will see I reckon. I will shoot red a text tomorrow and let you know.

For the north east Texas guys stand by to run a lot of the Nashville Ar. Dedicated runs. I spend most of my time flip flopping between Houston and Austin. The miles are pretty good if you don't have my bad luck as is the case here lately. The drivers are pretty stand up I have only come across 2 I don't care for. I like these gypsum loads too bc they are easy to secure and look really clean if done correctly. You can pm me your number as well I helped answer some of parrots questions and I also was able to meet up with him in his orientation as well as red beard too. Jay Sullins is your facilitator there in ennis he is a fair and honest man. He will work with you so long as you're humble. He has a strange sense of jumper that you have to kind of catch on to as well. Knock out your homework to and never be afraid to ask him or any of the drivers that stop by, and I should be by the yard tomorrow too I need to drop off a tire carcass so I will poke my head in and say hello.

I have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks broke down with trailer issues. So not happy about that I have missed out on getting extra loads because of it and today they had to re-assign my load and I'm still waiting for this trailer to be fixed so I can get a new dispatch. I swear I have the worse luck! Lol

I didn't get the pm. If you can just ask Bruce Moore for my number. I should be down that way around 6 this evening if all works out with my load today. Just tell him it's josh r and he is a Texas driver coming to pick his new truck up and you have been talking to me on this forum. It shouldn't be a problem
