Arrived Celadon Indy

Wow thats not good about the time spent backing. This is my biggest fear with all the company sponsored schools. Not enough time spent doing the things you need to really learn and learn good. I hope things improve for you, hang in there and keep us posted!!

Career change. Looking into company sponsored training opportunities.

Hey Errol thanks for the insight, every bit helps! This is probably the most exciting AND nerve racking decision Ive ever made. I have decided however that I def want to drive, no doubt about it. I aint gettin no younger!! Im studying now for the CDL permit test and I go Monday for the DOT physical. I found a place local that does them for $80. Does that seem reasonable or?? Knight does not take care of this part for you like some of the others do. Good and bad right? Im reading alot and trying to remember everything but damn my brain hurts!! haha. Stay safe out there, keep it straight and let me know how everything works out for you!!

Starting school on Monday

I can understand being nervous. Its alot to take in from the little I know about it. I have read countless diaries and stories of people who have gone before and intimidating to say the least. But just keep your head clear and stay focused with your eyes on the prize!! (And the road too of course! ha)

Career change. Looking into company sponsored training opportunities.

Hey gang, Ive been a contractor/builder my whole adult life (Im 47) and I now find myself unemployed and looking for a new gig. I have always dreamed of driving a truck I just never seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Things in life have a way of rearranging themselves at times and I have been seriously considering a driving career. For the last 3 weeks or so I have been researching company sponsored CDL training along with the immense help of truckingtruth.com!! I have narrowed my choices down to two. Prime Inc. and Knight Transportation. I think at this writing Knight is the clear winner for me although you do have to "pay them back" in actual cash unlike Prime. At Prime you give them a year of your life and the toll is paid. At Knight there is no contract and you can even keep the 0% financing if you decide not to stay with them. Prime pays better for training, $600/wk versus $400/wk for Knight. HOWEVER, and this was the deal breaker for me, Prime wants you out there for many weeks at a time. MANY weeks at a time. They give you 1 day for every 7 you work. This is no good for me. Also you go "team" with your trainer which I think is absolutely insane. So your trainer is in the bunk asleep while you drive? WTH? No thanks. With Knight if you're driving the trainer is in the passenger seat. TRAINING YOU. You know, the whole reason he/she is there? Yeah. So Im in in the process of getting my permit here in WV and as soon as I get that I will go for the three week training in Indianapolis. Wish me luck and PLEASE any suggestions or words of wisdom are most welcome here!!
