OLD SCHOOL, i know there is schools that will train me themselves, but i am handling some legal issues right now. This is why i was going to go ahead and try to get my cdl on my own, because the schools wont have me while im on probation. I know im rushing into things, but im anxious to get started and thought if i got my cdl i could just apply for jobs that would hire a felon. Evidently, i was wrong in assuming that as an option in my career path, according to the advice and informatioN you have laid out before me.

Old school I appreciate the heads up and the advice given. So now i am going to rethink my options. Im not necessarily trying to go at it in the cheapest way, im trying to go at it in the best way that could be better for me. Now after all your advice, i am going to not just go to any cdl rent a truck place, i will follow my first choice and try and get into a trucking school or college of some sort. Im not fully comprehending why i need the hours if i have the cdl, being a student driver i thought thats what it meant. But ive learned enough lessons in this life and one is when a expierenced person gives you advice, you best take all you can, cause they know thru their own trial and errors. So once again thank you OLD SCHOOL for your very generous advice.

Sinple question, am i too young to start a career in truck driving? Should i wait? When is the best time to start the career? 25 years old, never had a career plan till now, just been job hopping from temp jobs to hard labor construction, im ready to settle into a career, but not sure if it is the right time. Anyone have any input on this, feel free to drop a line, thanks.

Well that gives me hope. All yall can do is to keep the site going, and help more people like me, thats good enough. I really like the High Road Training Program, it is very helpful and i feel like i could pass the test no problem. One question is it better to get the permit first then go to school or wait and get in there at the school, ive heard it both ways.

Old school, i know brother, i am very anxious, i am very determined, i know im hoping on a miracle from these schools, but i do know the reality of it is absurd. I go to go apply for the WIA grant tommorow for a private school in dallas called INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS. Have u heard of them? They say its a 5 week course and they help u along with job placement. So, if i cant get those papers ill go through this school more than likely, they said they employ felons with 2nd chance employers, so we shall see what comes of it. Thank you for your feedback OLD SCHOOL i can see your one of the big dogs on this site and i appreciate your help.

Prime, CRST, international schools for truck driving
Thanks for the feedback old school. Unfortunately i do know i am banking on alot for this to happen, but it is what i want and i will pursue it, no matter how many doors get shut on me. I am actually thinking of going thru a private scho in dallas tx that the workforce pays for if im approved for the grant, called the WIA GRANT, just fyi for those who need to know. My thing is, going thru a private school doesnt necessarily mean you get a job, they help you, but im not sure how much. If i go through a private school, what companies should i try to apply to and would it be better doing private now, or waiting till im off paper to go to a sponsered company training. Thank you again for all feedback.

Prime, CRST, international schools for truck driving
Hey ernie, so is team driving less pay, since two ppl are driving or how would that work? Ive been hearing good things about prime, and if they take me with my record i will gladly go join them. Does prime have a mandatory home time? Like 3-4 days out of a month or somthing, or you just run till u wanna go home?

Prime, CRST, international schools for truck driving
Hey yall, just to update, i have sent in my application to the trucking schools listed above (Prime, CRST, international schools for truck driving), as well as Celadon. Was wondering which one would be the best fit for a guy who has a family no exp driving clutch whatsoever, and no permit, yet. i dont care about the yr obligation im fine with that, not too worried bout home time either, id rather make money that first yr to get my feet wet in the industry. Thanks for all feedback.

Hey jarod thanks for the comment, i appreciate all your feedback. i have permission to travel throughout states but my judge wont let me get early dismissal, i dont know why, but hes the boss. I am curre tly working on trying to get my record expunged, because its easier to get good jobs without a record. I understand i MIGHT not be able to get in while on probation, if so i can wait till january and stack some cash and prepare for the journey. I will continue to actively search and apply tho, i want to drive the open roads and i wont let my background stop me from reaching my goals. Thank yall for yalls support and feedback, greatly appreciated

Hey yall, just ran across this page googling ex felon truck driver. Thought, ah what the hell ill give it a shot, so her i am. Im gonna be completely honest that way we can talk blunt. Im a 25 yr old male with 2 felonies one from 2008- served 2 yrs state prison. and one from 2012 that i am serving a probation sentence, ill b off january 2016. I have permission to drive otr by my probation officer as well. Now i have been calling recruiters and trucking schools for a while now, to no avail. I am desperately trying to obtain my cdl through a trucking school, preffer free. I am currently studying my cdl handbook given to me by the dpt. Needless to say it takes time and effort, and im still working on it. I have a wife and 2 kids and i am not worried right now about being away, i am trying to make a better future for them, the way i wish i had when i was a kid. If any of yall know any 2nd chance companies or trucking schools that would give me a chance, please drop a line and let me know. All feedback is welcome, positive or negative. Thank yall for yalls time.
