Info on permits and testing.

double-quotes-start.png

I'm going to prime n a month are so for cdl training. I've already acquired my permit in Texas and was going to schedule all other testing except my driving. Does anyone know if this will transfer there when I go to school. If not don't want to waste my time are money if not. I've been using the study and testing guide here. So I have it down pretty good. Just wondering if I'm wasting my time taking it here in Texas or not. Thanks.

Check this out (I added some emphasis):

CFR § 383.79: Skills testing of out-of-State students.

(a) A State may administer its skills test, in accordance with subparts F, G, and H of this part, to a person who has taken training in that State and is to be licensed in another United States jurisdiction (i.e., his/her State of domicile). Such test results must be transmitted electronically directly from the testing State to the licensing State in an efficient and secure manner.

(b) The State of domicile of a CDL applicant must accept the results of a skills test administered to the applicant by any other State, in accordance with subparts F, G, and H of this part, in fulfillment of the applicant's testing requirements under § 383.71, and the State's test administration requirements under § 383.73.

(Note: § 383.71 (f), (g), and (h) are some of the requirements for getting a license in your or any state.)

This is as of July 1, so it's rather new. You should check with your state DMV. Give them specifics: School & state, etc. You still need to be tested for your home state's requirement. For example, if they require some particular backing skill, that needs to be tested their way.

Ok so what I'm understanding is when we test there we are going to get a CDL from our home state??my DMV was not understanding. They told me I'd have to give up my TX liceince for a Missouri then come home n change it again. Please let's know what's up with that.

Also wondering how does it work when I test there. Do I give up my Texas license. Do I have to get a Missouri one. Then transfer it back to Texas when I come home

Prime DOT physical

Guys and gals, don't want you to think it's just Prime doing this. Just about anywhere you go now days the company physical will require you to have a sleep study if you are overweight, and or you have a neck measurement of 17" or more. This has now gotten to be a huge CYA situation for these companies due to trial lawyers laying the blame on the companies for not finding out that their drivers couldn't get the proper rest before they caused an accident.

If you get prescribed a C-PAP machine you will be required to use it and the D.O.T. requires that it has to be one that can be monitored by the company for the proper amount of use.

And just because you passed a physical at your school, and they didn't say anything about your need for a sleep study, it doesn't really matter - any time you get a new job at a trucking company they are going to require you to go through a new physical with their chosen physician.

Ok I was just wondering thank you for the input. I'm leaning hard to go to prime. As I herd that they do have good pay and decent equipment. It's a new career change for me. As i have been in the oilfield over 24 years just tired of the ups n downs always wondering when I'll b laid off again.

Prime DOT physical

I've herd things about prime and singling out bigger people with sleep apnea testing. Just wondering if you are over weight and test positive for sleep apnea. Do you fail and they send you home. I've already passed all my permits in Texas and taken the DOT physical on my own just to have one where ever I decide to go to stay ahead of the game Any info would be helpful Thanks
