Gotta determine when to start

I agree. No sense in worrying about $$ while your trying to concentrate on school. Get the vacation pay, then start.

Welcome W.R! I'm sure we can all learn from someone with your experience and background. Thank you for your post. It was a good read, and I look forward to any more stories you might wanna share.

Did they give you some pprwrk with all the phrasing and terms used? If not, maybe write it down so you can have it with you all the time, and can say it word for word, over an over. My school gave us a binder with all the verbiage, and it was a huge help. Also, do you have a cheat sheet from your DMV? (reminder sheet)? My school had copy's of this form that we could take home and use during our pre-trips.

Nervous as hell

STOP! Ask yourself: did anyone die? It's water, not oil or some other Haz mat. It's grass, not cars or a fence. Yeah, it sucks that it happened, but it's really not THAT bad. I'd hope your Co would understand and cut you some slack.

Second guessing myself

For my part, I try to see the positives. I think about all of the advantages we have now. You can bring a lap-top along and skype every night. You have a cell phone and can call at every opportunity. You even have a "hands free" headset you can use to answer a call anytime while driving. You can take pictures and videos and share them on FB for friends and family. Just be thankful it's not the 70s or 80s when you really were pretty much "gone" for weeks at a time.

I'm driving. Now what?

Hello BoTox! You've been OTR a few weeks an are already looking at moving? Hmmm. That seems awfully fast to me. As far as Haz mat an such, I'd suggest getting them as it never hurts to have every tool you can to help your career. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Turning

Go slowly. If you have room(no cars waiting to turn left) take all the space you can, both on the left hand side of your lane and going out far enough. My instructor liked it when we had to make a car back up to let us turn. : )
