Graduated Friday and Passed CDL A Test on Saturday.

BB

Took my driving test today and everything went great. Looks like I'll try to get to orientation about the middle of next month. How did it go for you today. Any feedback about the process would be appreciated Good luck and safe driving

Sam

Congrats. Will be there myself in about 4 weeks! I hope...

Hey Sam & Dixie:

Orientation is going great. The skills test (backing) was no problem. The road test, was no problem. (I consider my shifting to be really rough.) Mostly it's just paperwork and watching some safety videos. The people here are really nice and supportive. I'm not sure why but I seem to have a bit of a case of nerves anytime I do any testing for driving. Here (at May) he was just like, "Don't worry about it. You're just getting your feet wet. You'll be past that in no time and you'll do great." I really do believe this is going to be a great company to work for. Since me and my wife are setting up a new apartment in Pensacola I won't be going out with a trainer until at least Monday. That's at my request. This company does try to work with their drivers as much as they can. I'm just going to work as hard as I can, do the job as well as I can and I have no doubt I will do well here. Yes, this is a good place to be.

Congratulations! I to just passed my test. I don't know how, but I did. I was a bundle of nerves. Good Luck and maybe I will see you on the road.

Hello Lynn:

A big CONGRATULATIONS!!! goes out to you. You deserve it. Getting into the trucking profession is a whole lot harder than it was the first time I did it around 28 years ago. You have every right to feel proud of the accomplishment of getting your CDL 'A'. You have proven that you have the skills to be a professional driver of some of the largest vehicles on the road. Now, go gettem!!!

Have a Great Day!

I'd like to find out about the books you wrote. I'm a big reader so I may want to read them. Talked to Zena today and she sent me the info on what to bring to orientation. I'm hoping to go about the third week of April if all goes well. Do you know when you will be starting. Would be nice if it was about the same time. I am really pumped about going back over the road. Last time I hit 42 states and really enjoyed it.

Take care and be safe Samgood-luck.gif

Good Morning Sam:

I'll send you a private message with a link to the Amazon page that lists all of them. What I write is not for the faint of heart. That's it about the books for now. I start orientation on Tuesday the 29th. Me and my wife are now in a Pensacola hotel relatively close to the terminal. We stopped in and met the people there. They seem like a laid back bunch and I really like that. If you go to work for them we probably will meet up after awhile. Yeah, I do think this is going to be a very good move. Have a great day.

Congrats Bad Bob! I am in Jacksonville thinking about the NTI in Orange Park or the Green Cove location. I've been told great things about both. How are the instructors at the Green Cove location?

Hello Amber:

I have no complaints at all about the Instructors at NTI. That being said, it was not easy. The hours are long and you'll have to absorb a whole lot of information as well as getting down the backing and shifting real quick. It's not easy but you can do it. Take a look at the two training diaries I did. Both start with "56 and Starting over." I won't name the first school except in private messages because they did refund my money. The second was NTI. So I do know the difference between good and bad schools. Yes, I would highly recommend National Training inc. Truck Driving School. Also, definitely do The High Road Online CDL Training Program that is offered for free at this website. By the time you are done you will be extremely prepared to pass any tests that come up in school and you'll breeze through all the tests you need to take to get your driving permit. I wish you good luck. Truck Driving is a career that demands a strong will and perseverance. Chase your dreams and never give up and you cannot fail.

Sincerely

Sam:

I forgot to say that Jolene is the lady who's been taking care of everything for me. I think she's from out west. Not exactly sure which office. She's really good. I am looking forward to this.

Bob,

I think we made a good choice. Who are you talking to in the recruiting department? I've talked to Zena out west and Darlene in Pensacola and they have both been really helpful. I got back behind the wheel on Saturday, my first time since 2007 and the feeling was great. Drove the course I will get tested on a few times and I really feel confident. So glad that I remembered so much. Just need to shine up my backing and parallel park and I'm ready to go. Hopefully I'll drive good enough to not have to be with a trainer for too long, but I'll do that for as long as they want until they let me go solo. Best of luck to you and be safe. Hope to see you at the terminal or out on the road. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hello Sam:

Yeah, I'm taking the attitude that I'm going to do whatever I need to do to get this career back off the ground. From everything I've heard May is a great company so I am very excited about all of this. Whatever needs to be done shall be done. That's all there is to it. I look forward to meeting you sometime around Pensacola. Be safe out there!

On the Job Search. Thinking about May Trucking.

Hello 18 Wheels:

First, a big CONGRATULATIONS! I passed my test on Saturday. So I know you are excited.

I am in the process of going through all the background checks to go to work for May Trucking Company. I researched them thoroughly and they seem to be a great company. I'll be starting in the Pensacola terminal. Don't have a date as yet. When I passed my CDL A test last Saturday the tester asked me who I was going with. When I said it was May out of Pensacola he lit up and said, "They are a very good company." Anyway, they have the qualities I want to stay with a company until I am ready to retire. What I like is that they have a guaranteed pay per week program. You get a minimum salary per week and if you go over that with your mileage you get paid more. When I was trucking before there were a few times I when I got laid over and didn't get paid for it. I had a truck tear the front off my truck when I was parked at a truck stop. That took around 3 weeks to get fixed and I didn't get paid for that time. With May, that can't happen. Everything I've heard about them is good.

Congrats Bob on your "one and done." Huge feeling of relief? Get ready for some more struggles and hurdles out on the road lol. You going OTR, local, line haul? Best of luck and be safe.

Hey Steve:

Forgot to reply the the "Huge feeling of relief?" HELL YEAH!!! I was hardly sleeping and not eating a whole lot because I was so tense. The last few days I've been sleeping good and eating so much I better slow down or it will be Round Bob. Yes, I am relaxing. I am ready for the next step in this.

Graduated Friday and Passed CDL A Test on Saturday.

Hey Bad Bob - I'll be getting my CDL here in Texas at the end of the month and will be going to May around the middle of next month. I'm 67 now so I'm really feeling old to be getting back into OTR. I drove OTR around 10 years ago but had to stop due to a family emergency and I didn't think I ever would go back but things have worked out so that I can. Are you going to the Pensacola terminal? I have to say that I did a lot of research in trying to find a company that I felt comfortable with and May seems like the right one. Everyone I have talked to there has been helpful and nice. Good luck and hope to see you there in the near future. Please keep us filled in on how it goes as you go thru orientation, etc. It will give me an idea of what to expect. Be safe.

Hey Sam:

They are still doing the background check but since there is nothing bad to find I expect to go with May. Yes, I will be out of the Pensacola terminal. Right after I passed the tester asked me who I was going with and when I said he replied that they are a great company. He knows people who work for them and they love the company. Knowledge is power and I did a whole lot of research. May just seemed to be perfect for what I wanted. Maybe we will meet in Pensacola. I haven't been in that area for over 30 years but it was really nice back then. Good luck with everything. Since you are a veteran of the highway you'll do great!
