Anyone Else on the 'Petite' Side?? :) oh, and Learning to Drive a Stick??

I'm a guy, and in the average size frame, so I can't add much here, but I've heard that it'll probably be easier for someone that's never driven a manual transmission than it is for someone that does it regularly. I think you'll be fine.

Thanks for your reply! I had a dream I was backing up my truck (which I do NOT even have at this point!) wrong and my MOTHER corrected me in the dream, lol...Not really relevant to this topic..Just kinda amusing...Plus backing up seems to show up here as a topic off and on...shocked.png

Hey:) Posted this in the gals section(also) but just curious.. I'm a little over 5' (maybe 5'1?..not sure,:).cuz height has been mentioned at times-does it effect you too much bein a tad petite?? :) ..My situation is I'm JUST checking into a school.....NO idea what I'm gonna do but have seen MANY women drivers lately!! Very excited,,,nervous about shifting/learning a stick..School I'm checking out seems cool..I got a good vibe when I finally decided to check them out..Guy was NOT concerned I haven't driven a stick at all! I am quite an optimist and some have tried to discourage me but I wonder about their motives..Good luck in all you do!!Thanks for ANY wisdom.. ~KaSandra

One of the drivers I slip-seat with is 5' tall, she has no problem at all. Very competent and skilled driver.

Very good to hear this! and your praise of this other driver..Thank you for replying! :)

Driving an 18 wheeler and double clutching is a completely different animal than driving a manual transmission in a car. You will be at an advantage because you haven't learned bad habits.

Yeah, I have heard it IS easier to teach those without bad habits..Thank you for your input!! :)

Local Training opportunities~Are they accepted by Truck Companies as Legitimate??

I have gotten advice here and on other support forums to look at local tech school/colleges to train for truck driving (reason is I am looking to stay close to home ) I do know there is a sacrifice with new ventures but I have children who are older but not sure it is a good time to be away for weeks.. So I am doing much searching going by the advice of people who are already driving..Here is a local place I found and am gonna check out : California Human Development Corporation-SCHOOL CATALOG What do you think of the place? I posted the link above..(I hope it shows up when I post this! lol) Thank you! KaSandra

JUST started looking into truck driving career~I need truth~Starting off Intermodal(local)/National?Do I have a choice?

You guys are awesome!! I'm Googling, etc like Crazzyyy!! lol..umm, so did you all learn on the job (like company based training-then work for that company for like 6-10 months or whatever?) OR did you go to one of the trucking schools?? It SEEMS that if you go to a school (which costs out of pocket..unless there are scholarships?? financial help of some sort??) that maybe you have more of a choice right off what kind of job you want?..Since I desire more hometime..well, depending on the area you live...I live in approx. the wine country/bay area...I'm in Santa Rosa,Ca rt now but gonna relocate to Napa..but there is a lot of opportunity it seems somewhat around here..I DEFINITELY am NOT a big wine person so don't wanna limit myself..I don't mind commuting to nearby Vallejo,American Canyon,..etc..etc...

I wake daily pretty early so this is not a problem..I will definitely read what has been written and keep researching!!

JUST started looking into truck driving career~I need truth~Starting off Intermodal(local)/National?Do I have a choice?

Hi All! I am just researching trucking companies right now. I have a family (as we all do to whatever degree:) and would like to be home at night,(Intermodal ) tho an occasional overnight is understandable. I was told I can NOT be home at night until I do cross country (National) type driving for a certain amount of months - depending on company. I know I will have to go away for school for a certain amount of time, but after that is it required by ALL trucking companies that I go across country for months?? I'm looking to do company sponsored training..I'm just gathering information right now..Thank you for any help! ~KaSandrathank-you-2.gifthank-you-2.gif
