In Cab cameras on the driver

I don't know much about trucking but I do know something about these camera's. My last job my branch had about 135 pickup trucks with these camera's. They made the mistake I see here too. Initially they installed 20 units that the vendor gave us to try out. But they did not explain to anyone how they worked and the employee's were freaking out about it. One of my managerial duties was overseeing this program. I have had multiple discussion with the vendor of the camera system and they operate as many have said. They record 10 seconds before and after an event and they do not run if the truck is not running.

There was a attempted homicide that happened 'on' one of our trucks. The police tried to get video from the truck but there was none. They can be used for 'evil' depending on how the company set's it up. There are many items that can 'trigger' an event, that is largely decided by the company.

I had several employee's that it helped with regards to truck damage. Without the video evidence their story would have been hard to believe.

Would you sign a Petition and pass it along?

Congress critters can and do influence the bureaucrats that make regulations. One would need to find a sympathetic Senator or 2 to plead the case to the regulators.

New DOT Medical Exam Forms - Let's Get EVEN MORE COMPLICATED.

This is nonsense. Aside from anything that may make you lose consciousness nothing else should matter. I have never seen another industry constantly getting hammered by the feds like trucking. Doctors will be flunking people that come in with a cold because they will be scared.

Unfairness of Pay by the Hour and The Fair Labor Act

Doesn't matter if drivers are paid mileage, hourly, by the pound or whatever. The carriers already know how much they will pay for labor and that's what it will be regardless of how you slice it up. Personally I would rather be paid by the hour but as Brett noted, it would make a lot of drivers slackers.

Gears

There are YouTube videos on shifting, check it out. Probably more helpful to see and hear than someone explaining it in words.

My nightmare!

I wouldn't live in someone else's filth, period. These situations are the main reason I am avoiding taking that route to my CDL. Sucking it up is if the 'trainer' is a donkeys behind. I wouldn't sleep on someone else's mattress, much less with blood stains and who knows what other DNA is on that thing.

Ha! That's my hero. Dugout ****, The Salmon River Caveman of Idaho. He died in 2010 at the age of 94. He got out of the Army(to stay on topic) after WWII, moved to Idaho and lived in a cave he dug out of the mountainside. He made more caves and rented them out for 10 bucks a month. Interesting guy. BLM filled in the caves after he died.
