10 speed transmission question?

My question is why am i feeling the knocking and the first gear will not go in smoothly. Is it because im not downshifting to 1st gear when coming to a stop? I usually downshift to 3rd gear the pop into neutral. Could that be why it doesnt go into first smoothly to 1st gear? Is it necessary to downshift all the way to 1st gear to not feel the knocking when trying to put it in gear from a stop?

That knocking you feel is because their is a little nipple that acts as a key for getting into gear from a dead stop. And from a dead stop is the only time you put the clutch to the floor. Once your rolling and not putting it to the floor you'll no longer feel it knocking.

10 speed transmission question?

Im new to driving trucks, its a eaton fuller 10 speed 1 to 5 low switch then 6 to 10 high. I have trouble even getting into first hear i feel knocking when i press the clutch and try to engage 1st or 6th for that matter. Until the knocking stops it wont go into gear why is that? Other trucks ive driven pop right into first with no problem?after im rolling its a breeze i float 7 to 10 with no issues full or empty but its the initial takeoff gear that doesnt go in as i try. Asking for some advice from you experienced drivers please ?

You can start out in whatever gear works without slipping the clutch, especially when empty.

10 speed transmission question?

Its a straight truck 3300 gallon tanker. I never smell anything just curious if theres any harm done to the engine or tranny thats all. Im also doing this when full and it seems fine no weird smell. Ease off the clutch and give it gas and she goess..... on a upward ascend of course i use 2nd or 3rd but on flat roads is my question?

10 speed transmission question?

Im driving a older international with a 10 speed eaton fuller tranny. I start in 6th gear and it feels so much more responsive and less wear on my leg and arm shifting from 1st to 5th and only doing 15mph??? Can someone tell me if starting off in high range will damage anything?
