Not US Born.

Hey, i have a similar issue as you, I am not with the Daca program you in but my legal status is pretty similar. you can see my thread where i ask something prtty much like you here https://www.truckingtruth.com/truckers-forum/Topic-13846/Page-1/how-many-of-you-have-hazmat-endorsement

basically only to get the Hazmat endorsement you need to be a permanent resident or U.s citizen, i believe DACA is neither. you should be ok driving a truck and getting every endorsement except hazmat. Good Luck getting you class A

Regards

Hi guys,

I recently got my work permit renew and was wondering if I will encounter any trouble applying for a Class A in California? Some material I read says I must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident. My manual just says I must be over 18(21 interstate) and mentions bringing my social and documents of legal presence. I originally applied for differed action and a work permit in 2013 as I was brought over by my parents at a young age.

I'm currently talking with Swift and in the process of studying for my Class A and getting my DOT physical.

Thanks.

How many of you have hazmat endorsement?

Thank you all for your reply, i will continue studying every available manual for now even for hazmat. Bryn my status is closer to a H1B visa so am neither a citizen or a permanent resident. i will talk to my immigration lawyer later in the future to see what i can do. Phil i had my driver license for a while now, clean driving record. I'll study for hazmat even if i am not able to get it due to my legal status

all your help and advice are greatly appreciated. thank you all

My problem is that in my state you got to be a u.s citizen to get the hazmat endorsement but unfortunately am not one yet. i can get all others with no problem.

hazmat endorsement doesn't really interest me, i was planning of getting all others except this but i wouldn't like it much if not having hazmat endorsement cuts out my probable job by a lot. so do many of you truckers have this endorsement?

If you can, get all the endorsements prior to school. It'll save you in the end. I only did my cdl and then Decided to add on Tankers, I ended up having to do all the written exams plus the normal class c exam

Yes, when you go to get your permit at dmv tell them you want hazmat, doubles, tankers. You'll have to take the written exams for them on top of the standard class a tests. Also you'll need to do a TSA threat assessment before you can get your hazmat
