Started school

Hey everybody,

I started school last week in Wisconsin at Fox Valley Tech. I'm very impressed with the school so far and am enjoying it very much. Had a rough time earlier in the week with down shifting a 10 speed (UGH!!!). That shot of fuel between double clutching was killing me!! But, eventually, everything started to fall into place. Pulled a trailer around today and that went well (I've had yard truck experience, which helped). Next week we work on backing and possibly hitting the streets. Overall I'm very happy with how things are going and the instructors are awesome!

More to come........

Endorsements

It will be a good feeling to get them out of the way!

Anybody remember how many questions are on the Hazmat test?

Endorsements

Thanks everybody! The High road training here certainly taught me a lot in order to get my permit and now I'll study for the endorsements as well!

Endorsements

Is it common to get your Hazmat, Doubles/Triples and Tanker endorsements before even going to school? Also, I went for a visit to the school I'll be attending and I noticed a lot of people practice driving with trailers but I didn't see any doubles. Do schools generally teach driving doubles/triples and the procedures with dollys etc.? Thanks

YRC CDL Training School

I'm curious how this has been going. I live in Wisconsin YRC's training academy page says that you have to work in Chicago. I see job postings for YRC in Madison and Portage Wisconsin which are much closer to home. Is it possible to complete the program/training and work out of Wisconsin?

Thanks

Interstate/Intrastate confusion

So I plan on getting a physical soon for my medical card and then go for my cdl permit. I have no idea who I will later be driving for or whether they cross state lines for that matter. Does interstate cover all bases no matter what area I would be driving in? I'm 48 and live in Wisconsin. Thanks

Just a quick training question

Thank you Chris. Sysco is one of the places on my list. I think the hard work would be worth it!

Just a quick training question

Are there any of the big companies where you go out with the trainer (for several weeks) that will have you home on weekends during the training period? I'm in Wisconsin....

Any opinions on this?

Thanks guys. I'll definitely weigh every option. I just talked to a Fedex Freight driver and he said starting out on the dock may be a good option and I could possibly work my way into a driver position and earn my CDL that way. I'm open to anything for the most part...

Good deal for a graduate?

Thanks Errol. I plan on going to a school later in the year (wish I could start school tomorrow but I have to wait). You made a good point about the "transition" but wouldn't it be considered training if the person isn't transitioning from another type of driving?

Local full time after the 8 week training? I mean, something like this would perfect once I get my CDL. Any opinions?
