Swift ordered to pay owner-operator $2.6 million after trailer squashed his foot

The problem with the trailer was that the tandems would not slide because the pin did not retract. So when the driver moved the truck the tandems were skidding along the ground. The plaintiff assumed that the tandems would stay in place.

Big question is how many times have we all had a problem like this with a trailer? If that is worth over two million dollars then what the hell we doing working still? We could all be billionaires by now.

Learned a lesson.....the hard way.

Twice now at a truckstop someone at the fuel isle had locked their keys in the truck with the engine running. They came and asked me if they could try using my truck key because I drive an international like them. Both times it opened their door.

I always have a copy of my key on the outside of the truck. I would have been fired by now for all the times I would have locked myself out without that extra key.

That feeling!

I remember having a feeling like that the day I drove my first load all by myself. I started team driving with this guy right out of training so had never been on my own before. Had about three months experience in all but always had someone there with me in the truck.

My partner was taking a few days off and dispatcher gave me a 900 mile run while he was away. I just remember that feeling of how here I am all alone, picking up the load and delivering it all by myself.

I do that all the time now but of course it will never be like the first time.

Layed over...

In order to avoid all that waiting around I got myself driving on a dedicated route. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had to wait on any shipper or receiver for more than 15 minutes.

If any of my receivers are not ready to unload in five minutes then I am either on the phone or making my way to go find a manager to fix the problem.

A loaded trailer is always waiting for me to pickup when I get back to the yard.

Being from New Braunfels you are in the perfect place to find a nice dedicated route going out of San Antonio or Austin.

Experience question

As long as you are learning something about trucking then that is experience.

If a company requires 12 months of experience then that counts all the time you have been in the truck and getting paid, even trainee pay.

Is Anyone Doing Anything About the Shortage of Truck Parking?

In the two years I have been driving I have never run out of time before managing to find a place to park at.

Mostly because I drive regionally out of Dallas, have not touched the coastal states since my training days.

How Much Over the Speed Limit is 'Speedin'?

Anyone ever been to Golden Meadows LA down by the gulf coast? That place is speed trap capital of the world.

They are proud of ticketing folks there for one mph over the limit.

Is this a phase that happens from time to time?

Jb hunt has given me three raises in the last nine months, a permanent dedicated route that I love just last month, and my boss is super hot looking, like a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.

Tonight I am parked in San Antonio at the walmart I I will be delivering to tomorrow and there is an awesome 24 hour classical music station that I get to listen to all night.

There is some good news for ya.

" Finding" an empty trailer

I remember my CR England dispatcher once sent me to three different places to look for an empty trailer. "Try this place... Ok go try another place..."
