Richocet's Bio

OTR retired (on/off hwy since 1979) support construction related job sites with a 'B Class' tandem dump for a a local company. Don't know 'real trucking' until highway/off road with 64,000lbs gross! (Achm that's with 3 axles not 5!!) Paid hourly averaging 11hr days home every night currently pushing 2006 Peterbilt with a C13 CAT.

My true passion is 'prepping' as in residential solar power.

Trucker vs. Computer programmer? Two jobs lined up.

. . . . a growing industry. There is a critical shortage of drivers so I would expect salaries to climb..

Some things that just make one go 'hummm' . . . the reason there's a 'shortage of drivers' IS shortage of pay!!

It's kinda like 'self-driving' cars. The more time, effort and money we put into it THE LESS a family orientated, freedom loving person will get out of it!!

Clothing what to wear

Is there anything against wearing skirts while otr? I can understand . . . .

Catherine we 'ave ONE lady driver . . . and never see her in skirts. But then again, our job requires construction 'safety gear' which also excludes 'shorts' (which, in your OTR case, would 'prolly make better sense!!)

You'd be a hit at the truck stop, probably confused for a 'lot lizard'??

Double Clutching

JoAnn your really just barely pushing, tapping the clutch pedal VERY LIGHTLY, hardly not at all..

Just enough to break the 'tension', then head for next gear. If downshifting 'rev a little' at same time.

I know how instructors probably hate 'floating gears' but, actually, THAT's EASIER and what you'll eventually wind up doing!!!

New cdl grad....local/regional/dumptrk

PS: I would never drive "per mile" again! I get PAID to sit in increasing horrible traffic probably average (lol including 'off road' deliveries) about 250, 300 miles/day!!

New cdl grad....local/regional/dumptrk

I wonder if the big name companies would take a new graduate with class a b c cdl for intermodal, straight truck division, or local cartage? My home will be in the Dallas metro area.

Matthew screw the 'big name companies' check out local construction companies mine is 'family owned' - if Dallas is anything like Atlanta "B Class" drivers are in great demand, pay by hour with over-time, home every night we are busy as 'ell!!

For example: google "concrete supply fayetteville" I drive a beautiful 2006 Peterbilt tandem conventional with a 9 speed, C13 CAT! While bigger companies are tending more and more toward dreaded "automatics" there's nothing quite like going home after a 13hr traffic duty day!!
