Young old (74 on 26 July) lady that drove OTR 1988 - 1993 with a Chauffeur License, getting off the road because the husband hated driving & wanted to work cattle. In 1996 he suffered 2 Traumatic Brain Injuries & lived with the issues of that for 18 years. I cared for him all that time except his last 2 weeks of life. Knowing that he would be going to a nursing home, I went to school, got my CDL, got a job & getting the husband settled in at the home when he fell. That caused his death in Sept 2014.
The company gave me time and several weeks later I started driving team with my brother 😝 That lasted 2.5 mths and for the first time ever drove solo. I have now been on the road for over 10 years. My driving partner is an 10 yr old mini Rat Terrier guard dog.
On 6 May 2024, my company called me and 60 other drivers in to tell us they were bankrupt and closing their doors soon. By the end of May, the other 20 drivers were let go and the company closed. Since that time I put in over 30 applications for local work. Responses from Chobani for yard jockey was that I was overqualified. Glanbia wanted me to haul a milk tanker to se ID where winters are horrendous for $25/hr. Oh, the $25 also included washing out my tanker. Nope....too old to do that. So, I'm now doing in-home health care, back to raising dairy goats and chickens.
After getting several weird calls from guys that said they saw my info on Trucking Truth that I would talk or text while driving boring miles, but then want to meet up....NOPE, not doing that. Those that want to talk with me already have my number.

Howdy!
As a driver out of Idaho, going east on I84/I80, I can tell you that Wyoming can be a witch in the winter. Ran it for 15 yrs and it seemed to get worse the past 8-10 years.
WYODOT very seldom shut down I-80, I-90 or I-25 until there was a mega wreck in April 2015 when 45 vehicles, mostly semis, shut down I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne for almost a week. Then a week later, more than 60 vehicles, again with more semis than 4-wheelers, were involved in a mega wreck. This time, there was a fatality. Now, they shut down the roads when a storm blows in. It took me a week to go thru Wyoming due to storms. So, from Sept thru April, if you go thru WY, carry extra liquids, foods, winter gear/clothes, sleeping bag, blankets and put this website in your phone:
Wyoming Road Conditions This is better than WY 511.
You can also get text messages from WYODOT like these (for I-80, but they do all roads):
If you are heading westbound on I80, stop in Big Springs NE at exit 107. I-70 is just a couple miles from there if you need to divert south. The company I drove containers for would have us stop there while they looked at road and weather reports for Wyoming and Donner in Calif before making the decision to stay on 80 or head south. If we were heading eastbound, we would stop in Salt Lake so if we needed to go south on I-15, we could.
You'll be fine if you don't let the tailgaters and speed demons rattle you.

Messed that reply up and also double posted 😝

All the corn grown around here, and there is sections and sections (640 acres = 1 section) of it, is for making silage for the cow dairies. Idaho is 3d in the nation for cow dairies. It's being harvested now.
I watched "Oklahoma" a long time ago, but don't remember that line. I'll have to find and watch it again.

Are practitioners at Kaiser allowed by DOT to do physicals? They changed the requirements a few years back and now practitioners have to be approved and listed with DOT.

Back when I drove long haul with a Chauffeur's License from 1988-1993, we did NOT call the DOT with our travel plans when entering each State. Not sure when that ever started. I came back driving long haul in Sept 2014 and it wasn't a thing then either. I didn't read all of Brett's book, so not sure what he said about that. No, you don't call DOT with your routing.
As for using a GPS, you can get one for truck drivers at truck stops. You can use Google maps. However, you have to realize that you best buy a Rand McNally map book at a truck stop. The book is current on the Low bridges, Permanent Weigh Stations and Restricted Routes as well as other info pertaining to trucking. Using a GPS for trucking has it's issues, along with Google maps. Drivers that do use them, have gotten themselves into very tricky situations. Google maps is good at looking at the satellite view of the shipper or receiver you are going to. You are correct, Google maps is for 4-wheelers. Even Trucker Path does not have accurate trucking routes.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with school.

Search for companies that do company sponsored training programs. It'll be alright, you didn't do anything that bad, that's what the learning process us all about. They should expect you do make a few mistakes, you're new. Sounds like they did you a favor...sounds like they suck.
As was stated above, they may be a small company. Small companies HAVE to keep their incidents down or they cannot afford their insurance. Did they do him a favor by letting him go? Maybe, so he can try to get on with a training company. Do they suck? Absolutely not. It's not their fault that he went the route that we advise against.....private school that only gets your CDL and no job and then take the first one that comes along. He should be fine with Hogan.
You? You have a lot to learn out here and realizing that most companies have standards for hiring and keeping a person is one of them.

Stevo,
Anne and I talked on 16 Nov by Messenger and then she got her phone to work and we chatted for an hour. Her doctor said her rotator cuff would pass a physical and she was so excited. She was going to go take her CDL test soon. Unfortunately she passed away the next day. I kept sending messages by Messenger and text, but it wasn't strange to not hear from her due to her phone and internet issues. A month later, I found out by her daughter Jaime posting on FB. So I called Tom and talked with him for several hours. I miss talking with her.

Schneider dedicated Floor and Decor
How is this account? Are they tight backing docks? Do you deliver to stores or Distribution Center?
Floor and Decor is the account? Never heard of them, so I looked them up. Now I know why....they have 243 stores in 38 States and none in Idaho, Wyoming, ND, SD, MT and only one in NE. I've lived in WY, MT, ND and now ID for the past 45 years!
If I had to hazard a guess, you would be delivering to individual stores.

Corn, Corn, Corn!
I'm about 7 years older than you. When JFK was shot, I was in the 7th grade at a Catholic Grade school. Most of the nuns were crying and we were pulled from class to go to the church to pray. It was a sad day.
