Thanks guys I'm 21 and I'd love to get into this career but im a hard worker. I use to work as a correctional officer as soon as I turned 18. And graduated from high school Did that until my mother got sick and exceeded my leave and just couldn't return. She's ok now. I would log in 168 hours at least every 2 weeks no joke. 236 hours in a month believe it or not.
Enough about me but I am a hard worker believe me if there's labor I'm there. I fell on some bit of debt and now I'm here but the positive about the trucking industry is that I know one day I'll be able to succeed at this and be able to do it from home and eventually earn myself a dedicated route so that's why this is so important. Being from El Paso Texas nothing here pays well not even if you're a cop. And that's no joke but the living costs are so much lower. Alright check it out. I am so un pleased with MTC. They swear to you the company will hire you before you come and that you're qualified you just have to pass their training. They do a background check and everything.
THEN YOU. ARRIVE HERE AND THEY MAKE YOU SIGN A "not guaranteed job placement" contract. And swear to you you got the job it's just "incase" you fail your test or it takes you excessive time to pass your test and the company doesn't want you. The Werner recruiter got here and told us our applications aren't even in with them. So they don't have a background on me or anything and I don't even know if they'll hire me. I got a phone call from the school recruiting me guaranteeing me job placement before even showing up. When I spoke with the Werner guy he kept it real and possibly told me I might have an issue and respect to Werner I apologize about even bad mouthing them (at least I think I did).
We all have done things on our past that we're not proud of. These 2 incidents are about 2 years old which are I have a leaving the scene accident WHICH TOTAL BS and the police report proves it they only gave it to me because they had to the cop LITERALLY Told me that he didn't want to give it to me because I did offer insurance tried to get a hold of the people no one answered the door...this was overnight. Returned the following day but they got mad and called the police which they had every right too.
I have a Public intoxication that I received as well which was dumb too when I was working as a correctional officer. It was at a facility party cops didn't like that My coworker CO was being rowdy and 4 of us were with him taking care of him and of course they were *******s and smelled our alcohol and we got picked up for it. Yes of course he was doing his job and it's my fault for being there in the first place you are right(even though I just stated they're *******s haha).
Knowing this they brought me and told me I'd have a job. I'm stupid and signed the contract just like everyone else but now we're screwed. My best thing is ride this wave out and even though I most likely won't get accepted where should I go? I know some companies will accept me it'll take some work but any recommendations. As for the school I might be able to just leave today and only pay 350 which is better than paying the full 7000 but I've heard it can benefit me as I can make more staroff wise. Please please help me with some advice guys. I have always wanted to try this industry out.
Sorry for such a long post just thought I'd let you know the whole situation as y'all are he experts and get the best answer

Ok so i came out here to missouri cause i was desperate for a job the recruiters promise so much and guaranteed job placement and I'm realizing so much as people have gotten their CDLs and let go. Im a newbie and have gotten myself into this mess. I would like to finish my training but would like to choose my own company as I'm set to drive with werner but by what the reviews are i am not optimistic about it. It's my first week already passed my permit test. Does anyone know what were to happen if i passed my CDL test but decided to go on my own? id be willing to pay the money back but id like to start with a better company that id trust. does the money have to be paid all in full or could i pay in payments would the school be willing to let me choose my own company ? can they hold my license? i signed the contract but i haven't signed anything with werner nothing but a pre hire stating upon completion they're willing to hire me and pay for art of my schooling or something but they can still refuse to hire me.
Im 21 years old and i just want some insight.

MTC Truck Driving School
Hey old school thanks for the help man im really learning more from a guy that obviously knows what he's talking about. Now you're right, too many emotions are running through me right now for the mere fact that I'm nerveous is all. This industry is like no other like you've said, law enforcement is all I've done and once I got phone calls and got through those doors that meant I had a job every time.
I passed up a law enforcement job specifically cause of this but that was my decision. Now I know about this a little more, an orientation doesn't mean it's for sure but the way he talked to me and led me to believe all this is what messes with my mind when I specifically told them and I quoted to him " I know I will pass and get my permit in the first day and study my ass off, as long as you can guarantee me a job." The main boss man I spoke to him to get a little more clear up on my thoughts, the dude wouldn't make eye contact with me,sort of blew me off, and of course because I'm young he kind of looked at me as a joke until I told him i use to be a correctional officer and established that commitment respect and integrity is what plays a big part for me so I wanted him to give me the same respect and give it to me straight forward.
He did show respect but again couldn't give me a straight answer and told me I'd be tied to Werner no matter what. Now the one last thing that I can tell you that I didn't make myself very clear, what I meant is the WERNER recruiter made it very clear and this is why I apologized about bad mouthing them, he was honest and pretty much told me the company would probably not hire me due to background issues. I told him very honestly I was an idiot I made mistakes and all I can say is I've learned from them. Since my last misdemeanor I can prove that just by saying I haven't gotten not one speeding ticket and stayed out of trouble in every single way possible. That's all there is on my record. Almost 2 years ticket free of anything.
I can't do anything but stick to it now I will follow your advice and not listen to people and just focus on myself that's my main goal now I've heard western express is a good second chance company? I'm going to look and put in those applications like you said. If I can get approved and get that one year in of experience by the. My driving record should be fully clear bc mostly they all want 3 years of moving violations so yeah let's see how this goes
