In June 2017 I obtained a 2 year medical card while living in California. In October 2017 I moved to Georgia, and turned in my California class c license, and obtained a Georgia class c license. In December 2017, I obtained a CLP in Georgia. The issue is, when I obtain an actual CDL license, will there be an issue since my medical card has my California license #, which clearly doesn’t match my Georgia license #. I’ve asked at the school I’m attending and have received a very non convincing... you’re ok. One trainer however said the discrepancy could cause the DOT to place me out of service. I’d prefer to get this straightened out before hitting the road. I take the pre-trip, backing, and road tests tomorrow.

She really must have really made you mad if years later you still resort to name calling. Whatever happened to female solidarity? LOL

I just had a conversation with someone not on the board and their suggestion was, when ready to learn manual, go back and obtain a cdl permit again, then practice on an available manual until ready to take the driving test in a manual.

For some reason that obvious solution didn’t creep into my mind.

I guess I was too busy seeing walls to notice the doorway.

Dead Money are you enrolled in a Paid CDL Training Program with a major carrier, or other?

Major carrier with a 12 month contract instead of an upfront cost for training. And they train and run automatics.

I guess I wasn’t clear enough on the heart of my question.

As a permit holder (current state) I can drive either a manual or automatic as long as there is a valid CDL holder in the passenger seat.

Once I obtain the CDL license with a auto restriction, and a years experience, I can’t legally drive a friends manual while he ( a valid cdl holder) rides in the passenger seat.

So how do I go about obtaining experience such that I can pass the testing process.

There should be a process fully within the law, that allows a person to remove the restriction.

For those who have done so in the past, what was the process?

I am about to start training with a company that has automatic transmissions. I intend to stay with them for a full year commitment. Once that is complete, I would like to have my restriction removed. What is the process? Where would I get experience with a manual? What would I expect in terms of testing?

July 3rd,

I had a dentist appointment that ate up most of the morning. After leaving the dentist, I went to the DMV and the line was HUGE.

By the time I got called, it was 15:30, and no testing starts after 15:00.

I did get my paperwork all squared away, and fees paid.

July 5th,

My 2nd day of class, however is was the 1st day for those students since they didn't start on the 3rd after all.

Instead of repeating the whole day, the instructor suggested if I felt prepared, I could go back to the DMV, and take the tests for the permit.

Another HUGE line, but I got to test by 14:30 this time, 4 tests, 4 successes.

I'm working my way thru "The High Road Training Program", but that 2nd section "Driving Safely (permit)" reminds me of I-10 thru Texas, it just keeps going and going. So far I'm sitting at 98%, so that's okay, but I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet.

Due to Eye Doctor, and Dentist appointments (scheduled before signing up for the class), my 2nd day of schooling will be July 5th.

If I ever get to the other side of Texas, I may be able to have my permit completed before returning to the school.

I picked up what they taught us the first day pretty well, but I like the way "The High Road Training Program" reviews previous sections to effectively "pound" the information into the brain.

I know the thread is a year old, but based on my conversation at RoadMaster (Jun 2017) the course costs $7000 if you want financing, $5000 if you pay cash. Werner will pay $250 per month you are employed at Werner until you've received $7500. What I don't know, is at what rate you pay back the $7000 if you finance, since I paid the $5000 up front.

I've read "The Raw Truth....." I've been using a CDL Prep app on my phone, but I'll run thru "High Road Training Program" As for a company, I've already received some information from Werner. Since my preference is to travel the US, I'll weigh that option pretty heavily when considering the companies pitches.
