Starting Truck Driver Institute in Indianapolis on Monday!!!

Go Woody GO! Outstanding my man! Keep your eyes on the prize, head out of the clouds and wheels on solid ground. You'll do great. I'm certain of it. I totally feel you on getting an opportunity to go to work and earn a good living again after being unemployed. When I got cleared for solo qual and back in a truck after 6 months of unemployment I about kissed the road tester for the company I'm with now. If I'd have been out a job for a whole year, I might have. LOL.good-luck-2.gif

Cool beans. Teleported me back to SC. Thanks.

Wish I had a button that could do that rofl-3.gif

Woody, Brett can hook you up. He's the app master. Gonna start calling him Scotty (from Star Trek). I can see the headlines now. "Trucking Truth Revolutionizes Logistics and Transportation With The Advent Of The Freightporter."

"[Dateline - Frozen North America] Brett Aquila; the founding father of Trucking Truth and inventor of The Freightporter, now richer than Bill Gates, was last seen chillin' on his yacht in the bay of his private island vacation home in the Caribbean, sippin' a frosty cold one and . . . writing a new trucking app to help the now dying breed of The Old North American Trucker stay viable and employed and the new breed of Young Freight Teleporters learn the ropes." LOL.

Brett, just giving you props bro. "Giving you props bro?" Really? My kids and grandkids tell me I shouldn't try and use their lingo because I never get the context right, but I think I got that one right. rofl-2.gif

my manual update location pinned me in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa

That's because it didn't get an address properly for you. That location is 0,0. It returned a blank. Try doing it again and see what it does.

Cool beans. Teleported me back to SC. Thanks.

Truck Theft

I agree with everyone else. Common sense deterrents work really, really well. As much as it pains me to say this: don't forget to lock up and take the GPS off the windshield at the terminal too. Don't get complacent just because it's your company's terminal and fellow employees hanging around chewing the fat and swapping stories. To be honest, after all these years that is the most frequent place I've encountered instances of theft of personal items from the truck. At a company terminal. Sad, but true. Large organizations employ a wide variety of people and not all of them are good honest people like the folks here on TT. One trick if you don't have curtains is to get a fold up reflective sun blocker that goes in the windshield. They are cheap and bendable so you can get a big one and make it fit easily if you don't want to mess with the pre-made curtains. My wife wrote "DRIVER RESTING. DO NOT DISTURB" in big block letters and put a "No Lot Lizards" decal on mine. It works great and folds up nice and small and stores right behind the driver's seat so it doesn't take up any room in the cab, plus it is 100% out of the way when I'm driving. Also, when I'm using it and I AM in the truck, I can see out the side windows. With the sleeper curtain just down loose but not fastened and open in the middle I can easily look out but others can't see me if I'm in the sleeper. Poor man's cab curtain. LOL. Hey, it works. Have a good one and Kudos for staying healthy OTR. Trust me, the older you get the more of a challenge that can be. Getting in the good habits from the start is the right way to go.

Hi Brett. Down for a couple days home time and thought I'd stop and say hi to everyone. I updated my location a few minutes ago and did all the things you suggested and my manual update location pinned me in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. Now I'm a helluva driver but I ain't THAT good. LOL. Browser is IE 10 - yeah I know. Microsoft fixing things that ain't broken. No biggie. I'm pretty sure folks know I didn't drive to the Cape Verde Islands.

Star - my birthday's in January too: We need to talk about this gift thing. Halvsies. smile.gif

Restricted Class A

Welcome Doug,

That will depend on the State and the Restriction. Some States (mine) will issue a class A with a no air brake or no fifth wheel restriction or both, for exactly cases like yours where utility workers drive vehicles with hydraulic brakes that hook up to a pintle eye hitch, but the trailer weight is such that it requires a class A to pull it. Your State DMV will be your most authoritative source for an answer since they are the Agency issuing the licenses. Most schools I'm familiar with, the first part of school is all the classwork, etc. required to get the permit, then the practical skills to get the full CDL (as well as Safety, Regulations, Logs and Admin skills (trip planning, map reading etc.)) So, if you are attending a school, the first part will most likely be getting your permit anyway, so no worries.

Also, no worries about rust. It comes off quickly. Best of luck!!

Cool App Brett. Tried it on an HP laptop with Windows 8 (which I DON'T like) and running IE 10 as a browser. Worked great using a guest WiFi connection.

Now if you could just tell me how I can get my avatar working I'd be all set. I cut and pasted the address (location) of a small JPEG I keep on my desktop into the location spot on my profile but it didn't take. I was going to just go back to using the default icon, but that location is gone so Animal has no avi, so Animal is sad - other than the fact this site is totally cool! I would have just e-mailed you via help, but this new laptop is giving me fits trying to set everything up to be able to float the Windows 8 gears. Won't be home to tinker with it in depth for a couple weeks so if you could help so I can have an avi, (even the default back) that would be awesome, as I have figured out how to get this [expletive deleted LOL] new laptop to connect to WiFi during downtime OTR, but I won't be able to see my tech guru (Mrs. Animal) for a couple more weeks. Mean time I'd like to have an avi when I visit. Again, awesome site and great App.

BTW. Possible name: "What's your 20". Driver Dots is funny, got a good chuckle out of it. Kudos on the clever Star. Thanks.

Animal, I think the avatar on this site is like many sites on the net. You need to upload your picture to a hosting site like photobucket first. Then you can get an address for the picture on photobucket. That is the address you need to put in for the location in your profile.

I hope that makes sense.

Woody

Thanks Woody and Brett (Brett I saw your reset me). Between the two of you I was able to get it done. Animal is VERY happy! What?! I AM smiling. LOL. Thanks again.

Cannabis

I agree 100% with TailGunner. I'm sure some folks are going to try the "I was on hometime and it's legal in my state" thing. I am equally sure it will meet: "We know. Still a violation in trucking, though. Clean out your truck and find a way home and it is my duty to inform you we will be reporting a failed drug test to DAC and anyone else that sends a request for information for the next 3 years." As far as the future? I sincerely suspect we will all (even those still in school) be long retired before it will ever be an acceptable if done responsibly indulgence like alcohol is. At least for drivers anyway.
