My fiance is an experienced OTR driver and about a month ago, we took a chance with a new company. Our goal was to settle in and then focus on getting my CDL so that we can team drive. He went through the 3 day orientation, we (sorta) picked out our truck, and off we went. When I signed the insurance/rider policy, the HR person informed me that once I got my permit, I could no longer be a rider due to insurance policies and that I'd have to go through their orientation, then my fiance "could train me."
Well, somewhere along the line, it was told to him that he could train me ONCE WE WERE MARRIED. 😱 Now, I don't know if this means that Company retains this policy or if it's an industry standard.
Regardless, I am super disappointed and kinda ****ed that the only way (in our particular situation) I can get the training necessary to pass the field exam for my CDL, is directly tied to our marital status, or lack thereof.
Does anyone know anything about this "loophole" or how to overcome it? Thanks in advance
