Welcome back to my favorite career! I began trucking with CR England Over the Road as a solo driver in 1990 to 1997, then tried the dispatch side...while trucking on weekends. I had just got married and began having children, thereby giving up my OTR life and starting my own trucking company as owner operator with my own authority. Of course, to stay home and be a Mom, I hired drivers for my truck. That lasted until early 2001, then fuel taxes tripled and us small owner operators could not compete. Since I had young children, it was best I move into another love, Information Technology. I still took part time work as a CDL driver hauling either flatbed, vans, reefers, dumps...and was even a school bus driver in New Hampshire for 14 years..while still doing part time truck stuff. A busy Mom who did her I.T. Field Tech self employment work on the side, as well as school bus driver...and still did occasional truck jobs. Moving on...my kids are grown and on their own. I took a couple of regional/local truck jobs over the past few years. All good, but it's time to go back to my original love...OTR or Regional truck driving. i have not been successful at finding a company who wants to hire me. I find it interesting, to say the least. I have a clean driving record, current DOT medical...background is spotless. My needs from a company are that they allow my cat (pet policy) and that I do not touch freight. In my younger days, I hired lumpers. I am currently helping/staying with my sister in central California, have my grown kids living still in New England and friends or relatives in the Northwest and Southeast regions of our great country. My needs for home time are not difficult to accommodate..I am content just about anywhere...I don't have to be anywhere at any time. So, tell me again why I am having difficulty getting hired as an OTR or Regional driver?

I was a contractor, they are illegally reporting involuntary discharge
I contracted with [name edited out]. Their lease was for $111,000 for a $50k tractor..we all know it is a sham in the first place. Then, after a couple months, after they have collected about $10k in payments from you...try to get you to upgrade. If you choose not to upgrade (which I did not) and pay there new lease price of anywhere from $180k - $200k...suddenly..you are out. After a heated discussion with that bug,[name edited out]...I stood up and told him I quit. Now, they are reporting to my potential employers that this was an involuntary discharge.
First of all, I was not an employee..so how can anybody call it a discharge?
This was a termination of contract...voluntary.
Now, I cannot get hired. I have an excellent driving record, background record, no tickets or accidents...etc...but, they are deliberately and maliciously reporting negative. I am broke of course, been out of work for a month..no money to hire a lawyer and US Legal services payment bounced, so I don't even have that to fight them with. I need an attorney to say the least....what other options do I have?
