NEW CDL

As I merged onto the highway, there were no tire tracks in the snow. No one else was heading out. There were several truckers pulled over on the side of the highway waiting it out as I continued on with my test. I was really wondering why we were still continuing with this test as emergency equipment came by me on my left. But on we went to the next exit to head back to the test site. Just thankful for all the help I received from my instructors at CRE. A huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Safety meeting today and tomorrow check out of hotel and head to Joliet, Illinois to wait for my ride.

What did you do before becoming a truck driver?

Worked for Black and Decker/DeWalt for 18 years doing various design aspect jobs. Finished my career there doing 3D Surfacing. Got out from behind the desk to go into the fitness world, then to USPS for the benefits (3 new kids) and now starting my trucking career. Leaving Bangor, ME to school with C R England.

Veteran Apprenticeship Program

every [trucking company] gets bad reviews.

You're correct Im sure Errol. I've already experienced the company bashing on other threads so I thought I'd try to proactively deter anyone from engaging in that. That's the only reason for that comment.

I just wanted to see if anyone had gone through this program, is it worth it for my resume or are they simply trying to get me on the hook for a longer commitment?

Veteran Apprenticeship Program

Im starting with C R England, going to their school in Illinois. I am a military vet and just learned of a program offered called the Veteran Apprenticeship Program. Once completed I would have my Journeyman Certificate, approximately 12 months. Does anyone have any experience with this DOL sanctioned program? Is it worth committing to a 12 month program versus having a 9 month commitment?

And please, no negative C R England comments. I have looked at many company sponsored schools and everyone gets bad reviews. Im sticking with them for now and making the best of whatever comes my way. Ive worked for the US Postal Service in Phoenix, AZ so I use that as a gauge... nothing can be worse than that environment.

Confused which sponsored cdl program to apply to

Just when I think I have it figured out, I hear something or read something that contradicts what I previously thought. What are best rated programs for new drivers?

Gut Busting

How do you stay fit while sitting in a truck for the majority of the day/night? Getting ready to start in a CDL program and in decent shape. How can I maintain fitness driving a truck?
