CDL and school complete

Finished my school this week. Was looking at Werner, but got a traffic ticket and recruiter said I would have to wait another year. :( Submitted an application with Western Express and this seems possible, considering flat bed. Don't need much home time as long as the company has a pet policy, which they have. Newer company to the industry (1991) but seems they have grown into a decent sized company. Like the prospect of flat bed for exercise. At 60 I get stiff if in one position too long. :) Anyone here have any input? Also looks like they may have automatics, not sure about that yet. Currently excited about the new career, am so ready to guit work at the jail. :) Have seen posts about politics, try work with a Sheriff's office. :) Get tired of dealing with bosses, public, and goof balls? Try to find a happy medium between these ranks while solely supervising 60 inmates in one pod, ages 18-70, with the emotional mentality of teenagers (problematic). :) At the same time know you can be written up for something as simple as a clerical error. I'm a loner basically so trucking keeps looking better. :)

I need a little help.

Hi Guy’s and Gal’s,

I have no under age children. I am not married, no home and haven’t worked in 2 years.

Please give some advise and ideas of the questions I need to ask recruiters.

I myself am working towards classes and finding the right company. So far the only concern I have for you, regarding questions, is most companies want minimum of two or three years recent employment history.

As to your current lifestyle "no children, not married, no home" would seem to make this career the perfect fit. I suppose you could skip one question about home time.

Also it seems most companies want minimal 160 hour schooling/training and need to ensure they are accredited in your state.

Another thought is maybe getting your CDL permit on your own prior to attending classes. Personally one local school here has dropped the tuition by $1,000.00 and shaved 40 hours off of my needed class time. The permit cost me $15.00, the DOT physical cost another $85.00, saving me $900.00! You can prep for your CDL here and it is an awesome teaching tool Bret has put together. Lot's of companies will reimburse you your tuition costs as well over time, making this a win-win situation.

Wish you luck.

Start class 12/16 CR England

Lot's of questions and concerns about this new experience. So many unknowns. I am single and kids have their own families so that is no problem. I do have a 40# dog and we are tightly attached. This, and I understand it is probably lame to many out there, is my biggest concern.

Class work, exams, and field testing and practice are what they are. I particularly enjoyed the other post in here about "clown soup". Totally see that picture. :)

Also have been enjoying the other experiences in here (six months and now solo-mistakes and getting lost) are also a part of this new world.

Anyone have a thought about my girl problem? :)

Thanks in advance!

JR
