Where are you in Charlotte?

So, I’m considering going from a dedicated flatbed account to regional dry van. I’m considering PFG or Knight transportation. I looking to be home on the weekends and would like some other recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I’m type 2 and take metformin. I eat clean, exercise daily (not hard with a flatbed) and take other supplements approved by my doctor. Maintain discipline and you will be fine. Lots of water and no energy drinks. They have tons of sugar. Hope this helps. 😬👍🏼 DM if you have more questions.

So, I was moving my truck and flatbed trailer to an empty spot, when a super trucker came speeding towards me in the lot. I swerved and bumped a parked trailer. Not much damage; scrapes on both. Will I be marked for termination? Be on my own for 10 weeks. Super nervous.

I have type 2 diabetes as well and take metformin for it. I went to TMC for my cdl, and they required I bring my latest A1C numbers no more than two weeks old from my doctor with their contact information. Other than that, not a problem. Hope this helps.

Have they re-opened any truck driving schools since they shut everything down due to covid? I went to schneider school back in the early 2000's but had to leave during my training period due to divorce. I want to get back on the road! I also have type 2 diabetes! Is that going to be a barrier?

I just want to give a HUGE shoutout to Trucking Truth and all the help to get me through my class A permit test. Now on to week two at TMC orientation! Fun times!

Thanks Rob T for the advice and insight. I've applied with other local companies and even Waste Management. I've been turned down by some and WM said they filled the opening already. So, this is a somewhat of a last resort. And trust me, my wife is my partner and we discuss and pray over everything. We have a great support system (family less than a mile away) and she is as tough as her Army dad and brother, so I don't do this without her blessing. But I will continue to investigate as much as possible. Thanks for the ideas!

First off I am sorry to hear your wife is going through such a terrible disease. TMC is a very fine choice and many people have found much success there. With that being said are you sure that's a good idea being gone so much? TMC does allow you to get home nearly every weekend (after atleast 3 weeks of school) but that may pose a problem going with to her treatments or being home for emotional support. Although most people that give it their 100% effort and follow instructions almost always succeed you do risk it not "clicking" and it taking longer to catch on. I absolutely love this industry and wish I started earlier. However I'm skeptical of now being the right time for you. You currently appear to have a stable income and likely medical insurance. Given what your wife is going through I personally don't think it'd be a good idea to be gone so much. That is my opinion and others may disagree with me and that's ok. There will be plenty of time after your wife kicks cancers ass to get your class A and make more money

I'd suggest you continue trying to get in with dump trucks, or maybe even garbage companies and see what happens. About a year ago Waste Management was hiring people off the street in my area to get their CDL. Also depending on where you reside with winter coming you may be able to get a job with the state plowing roads. That would give you experience with the type of vehicle you're wanting to drive and may be enough dump truck companies are looking for.

If you can't get some company to give you a job on dump trucks, then your alternative is to get your CDL-A. In the upper left corner, click on the 3 bars...it takes you to the index. Read up on the different topics and then click on this link: Companies with Training

A CDL-A will open more doors for you at good pay and maybe even good insurance. Let us know how it goes.
