Serious question on OTR trainers ....

Oh my—- 🙏🏼🤣

Actually Isanti "No lie" as in i was truthful the woman wanted a toilet and sick on the truck. It typed "now lie" lol. Sorry

I posted on another thread a woman expected to be able to pull over and poop in a pot during training. She expected the company to comply with her medical issue. Uh...no. I'm not having SpongeGirl ****pants on my truck. Literally told me she once crapped while driving her car and needed to use blankets to wipe herself then wrap herself in another blanket as a toga. Uh NO!

Serious question on OTR trainers ....

That’s what I get for not proof reading 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks so much! I’ve connected with my trainer and we have hit it off well over the fun and via text. Meet in person tomorrow!

I think - being a trainer is in my future. We shall see. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Here is a thought. No matter how good the trainer is, there will be students who think they know better. They will question and give advice and try to change the trainer. Some whine and complain, others pout then post "my trainer is horrible". I have had one guy tell me a 34 hour reset didn't count because although we didn't drive,... we were parked at a rest area with clean restrooms due to I 80 being shut for snow. "That wasnt real time off, so I want another reset".

One woman threatened to report me to prime cause I told her that although we would shower every day, I couldn't promise her a time. She wanted 8am everyday. Prime would have laughed at her cause most trainers do every other day.

Realize the negative stuff you read is written by people who don't know what they don't know. They have unrealistic expectations. One woman on her was shocked when she found out there were no sinks or toilets on the truck. Now lie

Between Kearsey telling you to 'lie' (hahaha!) and you being 'over the fun' already .... think you're all set ~!~ Roflmao!! (j/k....glad it seems good, so far!)

Kudos on getting thus far; hope the meeting goes fabulous for y'all~!!

Serious question on OTR trainers ....

Thank you sir! I will do as advised!

Jared I had a very good mentoring experience at Swift. It’s a two-way street, please remember that. Proactive communication is really important. Take ownership of YOUR training!

Good look and safe travels.

Schneider Orientation 😅

Thanks, GTown and PJ- being an infantry army veteran I figured sleeping in a hotel would be the best choice - as you all said 🤣

It kinda worked out - received my training plan today. They are flying me to Portland tomorrow and I will get a rental and drive to Albany, Oregon and connect with my trainer on Sunday. He is on a dedicated local route and I have a hotel booked for me for the next 5-7 days... 🎉🎉🎉

The journey continues !

Serious question on OTR trainers ....

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

With CFI, I had an excellent trainer. Then, when I started with my current company, I had to go through four weeks of training. The first trainer was excellent! Again, I was fortunate. Then, the last two weeks, the second "trainer" was worthless. Never paid attention to what I was doing, talked/lied non-stop about how well the company loved him, talked to other drivers on his phone constantly which was (thankfully) a reprieve for me so I did not have to constantly reply "mm..hmmm...." I do not know anyone who could deal with 12 hours of non-stop (and I mean that literally!) spouting BS. A couple times, I had to "kiddingly ask" him to give it a rest. Having to listen to him was more exhausting than the driving, etc. was! Thank God I only had two weeks with him. When I finished, my boss asked me how things went with "trainer #2," so I told him. He replied, "well, maybe he did not think you needed any training since you had some experience." It is a roll of the dice who you are going to get.

Serious question on OTR trainers ....

Thank you! Seems like this is the norm for many on the forum. Appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Hoping I'm not repeating what everyone has said on here but I had a pretty awesome trainer. Like one of the posts mentioned earlier, I still keep in touch with my trainer a few times out of the week or whenever I have a question on something that didn't really come up in training. There are some good trainers out there, don't get intimidated by what's posted on youtube and stuff. Good luck with your trainer, though!

Schneider Orientation 😅

Thanks everyone!

Laura, I was going to ask the same thing but my guess is - “so you can know what it’s like to sleep in your sleeping bag on a bed” or something like that hahaha.

They are telling everyone right now (because of covid) that we can choose to either sleep in the truck with the TE if the TE is ok with it or a hotel. If we have two people training (sounds like that is the normal right now do to lack of TE’s because of covid) the trainees get their own hotel rooms.

BUT

They are highly encouraging everyone to sleep in the truck so we can experience what it’s like to sleep in the truck at a truck stop, back at truck stop, use the shower etc - or the “truck stop experience we won’t have until we are in our own”

I am getting a hotel room 🤣

Good luck! My time with the TE went quickly. I’m Walmart Dedicated so I didn’t sleep in the TE’s tractor, I was put in a hotel and told to use my sleeping bag, not the hotel sheets.

Do you know why they told you that??

Schneider Orientation 😅

Well, I just got out of my evaluation meeting with my trainer. And it’s official- I am a new driver for Schneider!

Schneider’s drive is scored fail at 16 points and I scored 3 points. Need to check mirrors better and scan intersections better.

Whew - been a wild ride. Three more days left filled with tablet training, trip planning etc etc.

Then off mentors truck for 5-7 days 🎉

Serious question on OTR trainers ....

I totally understand what you’re saying here. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

My trainer was great. I am a trainer. My job is to teach hardheaded people like me, how to do this job. I have to adjust to each person's personality and attitude. I have a ton to teach in a short amount of time. The biggest problem students have is learning how to speak up. We are adults and must be able to talk to each other as adults.

Yes, there are terrible trainers.
