Covenant began operations on January 2, 1986,[3] with 25 trucks and 50 trailers. The company now jointly operates over 2,700 trucks and 7,000 trailers with the companies Southern Refrigerated Transport Inc. (Texarkana, Arkansas) and Star Transportation Inc. (Nashville).[citation needed] The three companies have shared terminals in Chattanooga, Hutchins, Texas, Pomona, California, Texarkana, and Nashville

Covenant runs almost all team trucks, with some regional solo opportunities.

Getting Hired At Covenant Transport

Minimum Hiring Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Have a valid Class A CDL
  • Provide Social Security card or other personal identification
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Commit no falsification and/or omissions on any part of the application
  • Provide a verifiable employment record for the past three years
  • Meet FMCSA regulations for driving a tractor-trailer
  • Provide evidence of any truck driving experience for the past 10 years (including phone numbers with area codes, for those employers)
  • Have US citizenship, permanent US residency, or be an Alien with Authorization for employment granted by the US immigration and Naturalization Service
  • Pass a mandatory drug screen; have no record of a positive drug test with any previous employer in the past 10 years
  • Complete Covenant Transport Orientation
  • Pass a valid DOT/Covenant Transport physical
  • Pass Covenant Transport's Physical Aptitude Test
  • Have the ability to perform the essential functions of a Covenant Transport driver with or without reasonable accommodation

Driving Record:

  • No more than one preventable accident in a CMV in the past year. No more than 2 preventable accidents in a motor vehicle in the last 3 years.Rollover must be over 3 years. (Commercial Motor Vehicle only)
  • No speeding citations of 15 mph or above in the last 12 months
  • DUI or drug/alcohol-related incidents in a motor vehicle: None will be allowed in the last four years, One in the last 10 years, 2 in a lifetime, Zero in a CMV
  • No license suspensions in the last 12 months; no more than one in last 3 years (Suspension for moving violations only. If verification is required, driver must provide.)
  • Jack-knife, rear-end, U-turn, or topped tractor/trailer must be over one year. (Commercial Motor Vehicle only)
  • Serious violations in a Commercial Motor Vehicle (defined in the FMCSR 383.51)None in the last 12 months. One in the last 3 years
  • No more than one moving violation within the last 12 months
  • No more than three moving violations within the last 3 years
  • No reckless driving tickets in the last three years
  • All careless driving tickets in the last three years will be reviewed by Safety
  • No record of driving while suspended in the last three years (Suspension for moving violations only. If verification is required, driver must provide.)
  • Hiring Drivers With Felonies

    • Felony convictions within the last 5 years will generally be considered disqualifying (However, exceptions are possible for certain debt-related offenses (bounced checks, child support, etc.) and certain non-violent domestic-related issues.).
    • All felonies over 5 years will be reviewed.
    • All misdemeanor convictions within 5 years will be reviewed.
    • Applicants with an active parole or warrant for arrest will be subject to further investigation.
    • Probation with permission from Probation Officer is reviewable.
    • Patterns of behavior exhibited by criminal convictions and other sources will be of significance.
  • Hiring Drivers With A DUI

    DUI or drug/alcohol-related incidents in a motor vehicle: None will be allowed in the last 4 years, one in the last 10 years, 2 in a lifetime, zero in a CMV.

Covenant Transport Driver Pay

Covenent Team Pay, Based On Experience:

  • 3-24 months: $.46 per mile.
  • 2-5 years: $.48 per mile.
  • 5+ years: $.50 per mile.
  • **Additional $.06 per mile for Hazmat loads***

$1000 per week Minimum Guarantee for HazMat Team Drivers with one year experience; $850 per week if less than one year.

    Covenant has the following home time options available:

    Home Time Guarantee: If you are late for your scheduled home time, Covenant will pay you $100 for each day you are late.

  • Covenant Rider Policy

    Covenant does not allow anyone to ride along.
  • Covenant Tuition Reimbursement

    $15,000 total - $125/month bonus for 5 years and then a $7500 check on your 5 year anniversary.

  • Covenant Pet Policy

    After training, pets are allowed up to a maximum weight of 50 lbs (can be 2 dogs at 25 lbs each, etc.). $500 pet policy fee.

Covenant Programs For Military Personnel

For recently separated or retired military veterans. Take full advantage of your G.I. benefits for up to a year while you train.

Trainers and master trainers work with you during a 1 year, 3 phase program.

    The training at Covenant will last approximately 5 weeks.

    You will average approximately $500 per week during your training.

    Training pay $450 per week, $525 with Hazmat endorsement.

    At Covenant you will run team after training.
