Boyd Bros. trucking company transports steel products and building materials, mainly in the eastern two-thirds of the US, on flatbed trailers. Boyd Bros. operates through two trucking units: Boyd and WTI Transport, which provides regional service in the southeastern US. Overall, the company maintains a fleet of some 1,050 tractors and 1,670 trailers. Boyd Bros. also offers freight brokerage services.

The company was founded in 1956 by Dempsey Boyd, the father of CEO Gail Cooper. Boyd Bros. was taken private in 2004 and is owned by members of the Boyd family.

Getting Hired At Boyd Bros. Transportation Inc.

Minimum Hiring Qualifications

  • Must be at least 23 years of age
  • Must have a valid Class A - CDL license
  • Work history - Minimum 3 months recent OTR experience
  • No felony in the past 5 years (a felony will be evaluated on a case by case basis)
  • Must have had no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years
  • Must not have had an Alcohol offense (DUI, DWI, OUI) in the last 5 years
  • Must not have had a reckless driving citation in the last 3 years
  • Must not have more than 2 chargeable accidents in 3 years
  • Must not have had a DRUG offense in the last 10 years
  • Must not have a lengthy suspension on M.V.R. for the past 3 years.
  • Pass road test administered by Boyd's Safety and/or Training Department
  • Must pass D.O.T. Drug Screen-Agility Test
  • Must be examined by our company doctor and pass all parts of D.O.T. physical exam. All medications must be cleared by company doctor.
  • No more than one serious traffic violation in the last 3 years (speeding 15 mph or more above the posted speed limit, improper or erratic traffic lane changes, or following the vehicle ahead too closely)
  • Hiring Drivers With Felonies

    No felony in the past 5 years (a felony will be evaluated on a case by case basis)

  • Hiring Drivers With A DUI

    Must not have had an Alcohol offense (DUI, DWI, OUI) in the last 5 years.
